Because mine was shooting poorly, I have significantly upgraded mine with:
1) Laminate stock from Boyds (mailorder)
2) Adjustable trigger (sharp shooter supply)
3) replaced barrel with a heavy barrel (done on a budget, used a Savage 308 heavy barrel, rechambered to 300WM)
I'm very pleased with the way it shoots now, but am now scratching my head as to what purpose the gun will serve. I only hunt whitetail deer so far, and its a lot of rifle unless you are stationary hunting. Its a lot of gun for short distance target shooting, a 308 can achieve the same thing using a little more than half the powder. There's no where around here I can shoot long distance with this setup. I'd like to try it at 500 yards plus.
So part of me says that if you need to do everything I did, it might not be worth it. A better stock would be worthwhile if the barrel is shooting good for you. If you need to do both the stock and barrel, you need to ask yourself if its worth it.

I would vote "no" it is not worth it. You could sell it and put the money towards a gun in savages lineup that comes with the accutrigger and accustock. I do not own an accustock model savage but the 3d bedding system looks like the real deal to me. At that point you would have a good shooter for less money than buying a stock, trigger, and barrel. I bought a 10fcp with the hs precision stock a few years back and could not be any more happy. It cost me $900 or so dollars and is the most accurate gun I have ever shot.

I did something similar.
Savage 10FP- $450 on the EE
Mcgwen 1-8 26"stainless 22-243 midlestead- $510 including the reamer rental from mystic precision
Bell and Carlson vertical grip varminter- $270 plus exchange from after market innovations
20 MOA farrel base- $100 from mystic
Mark 4 Rings- $170 from a local dealer
Mark 4 6.5-20X50 M1- $1340 from the EE
Around $1260 for the gun and $2870 all set up

Depends on what you want to end up with.
Because of the difficulty in getting the stocks for this new action, it is better to get a Savage in the stock you want.
however, the orig stock can easily be modified to whatever you desire and will save you a huge amount of money.
The factory barrel is plenty accurate for most hunting applications but easy enough to swap in an aftermarket Shilen or McGowen if you want to change the specs/chambers.
Personally, I really like the accutrigger for a hunting trigger but you can get a Timney for a replacement for the package rifle.
I am actually taking a long look at a short action package rifle to build up another project rifle. Will likely jump when the prices drop due to inventory clearance or better exchange rate.
Will also make a nice donor for the F class projects I am thinking of.

@cdnredneck did you got this issue with the b&c stock, if yess how you solve it ?
sry for the poor quality but it made wiht a web cam... the inlet for the trigger gard have been cut too deep by b&c :/ am tinking to get a bottom metal in next Year but for now i would like to correct this estetic issue.

Stick a shim under front of the trigger guard to be level with the stock. You may need a longer action screw.

Mine sits nice and flush. The only prob I have is that the barrel channel is a little off. You can tell the stock is closer to the barrel on one side than the other. Being a varmint profile there is still lots of room so I don't think I am going to worry about it too much.
i was tinking to cut a bit deeper the barrel channel, cause when i hit under the front of stock it flex enough to hit under the barrel. but am gonna look before if is an issue if i shoot from an harris bipod.

Here's my finished Savage 300WM. I started with a $350 rifle and spent around $650, not counting the scope, in upgrades.
I like the laminate stock. I just picked up the same barrel on the EE and I'm still lurking around for other deals for my build.
It's a Target Varminter from Boyd's. At the time I bought it, it was around $90.00, and could be ordered directly from them. It has a great feel in the pistol grip area and for some reason feels like it snugs up to the shoulder beautifully. Must be the right dimensions for my arm and neck length.
