Savage Impulse straight pull

i've been told in europe, being mostly commie or hardcore fascistic, they have a real hate on for semi auto hunting rifles. i, personally, wouldn't mind one of these is 358 or whelen, not that thats likely. 338 fedaral would be OK too.

Horsefeathers.

Why do you have to drag your distorted political bias into a simple technical discussion?

Maybe European hunters have just more class than you do.

I suspect issues with:
  • little to no primary extraction, it will stick with reloads
  • no idea how the balls will like any sand, if something blocks any of the tiny balls to go retract back inside it will shut dead. If a ball cracks it will probably totally jams it with fragments
  • as all straight pull and SR30 specifically I suspect it has to be operated fast, which means it will make quite some noise. Probably you will have to bump it in for a good measure. It would be really nice to have rails to move on, like blasers do, instead of just rattling cylindrical bolt.
  • I don't see a point of reversible handle if you can't switch ejection side
  • the overall length is the same as traditional 110, which is a pity if you look at how tiny Blaser R8 action is.

Actually ejection isn't that big of a deal. Most long guns that aren't bullpups eject far enough forward that operating it left handed doesn't matter. I've recently switched to left handed due to eye dominance, and I've shot right handed bolt action rifles, pump action and semi shotguns, and semi 22lr's left handed without issue. The real issue with shooting right handed guns comes from the controls - cross bolt safety's are a pain for example, but things like loading ports and magazine catches are often pretty ambidextrous.

It would appear this rifle has a tang safety so its probably going to be plenty useable by the left handed crowd - I know I'll be watching. It'll be interesting to see things like price and configurations, but I expect it won't be cheap, and I think people have an aversion to pricey savages even if they shoot nice.

Louder or quieter than a rifle shot you figure?

Looks like a combo of the ARC Archimedes and a Heym Sr20.

I’m a savage detractor but I want one

I think you have missed some of his reality based sarcasm. A number of Euro countries have ownership restrictions on semiautos, hence alot of obtuse designs to get around them.

Looks like marketing 101 - put out new rifle information - then retract all of the information = interest and curiosity (1 : desire to know: a : inquisitive interest in others' concerns : nosiness The construction inside their house aroused the curiosity of their neighbors. b : interest leading to inquiry intellectual curiosity

best free advertising a company can ask for -

Took me a while to figure out that savages “ good “ rifles are just their base models with whatever is currently trending done to them fairly well. Pretty good shtick if you ask me, which no one did.

Wouldn’t put me in a savage, but I bet I’m 50-75 years 90% of hunting rifles will have brewer nuts and stupid triggers. Ease of manufacturing is king, ask the rem 700 and its immediate predecessors. Not a lot of brand new CRF actions around when it is arguably the safest design, even “ old school” stalwarts are producing barrel but push feeds now.

Feel bad for the guys in 100 years picking up all the antique axises for 2 grand

Antique Axises lol

If that turns out to be true I feel sorry for future generations... And I like the axis for what it is! (or rather what it was, a $250 hunting rifle. Now that they're asking $500+ the appeal is gone)

I never really considered Savage as "innovative" ...in 50 years all they have done is move the bolt release from the top to the bottom on the 10/110 action, which made it worse.

Exactly, the other fellow has the iq of a stone. Browning Europe stated flat out the reason they came out with their pullback models was because of political issues, current and anticipated.

I love straight pulls, I own an M95, a K31 and a Blaser Tac 2. That being said I have a hard time seeing Savage do a quality job on these that would please me.

Not true. They did manage to produce the only viable semi 17hmr using their delayed blowback system

Looks cool, hopefully they make it with a decent magazine design. Last Savage I had, the $60 magazine had a little plastic catch that would break after putting it in the gun twice. Ended up putting it in a chassis to make a decent gun out of it.

The AccuTrigger was kind of a big deal. Thanks to Savage, the days of 8lb trigger pulls on factory rifles is a thing of the past.

Savages products are pretty “ on trend “ you can get them in a pretty crazy array of configurations.

Doing the math on the components of some of their rifles is kind of mind blowing; the ultra lite especially. A lot of guys drop a ton of cash building rifles like that. Others have no interest in pistol grips, cheek risers or carbon fiber barrels and I am right there with them.

Every budget rifle on the market but the ruger American seems to be some kind of axis clone.

The axis II comes in 280 AI lmao
