Savage in 338 LM

Thats the main issue. Your cost analysis excludes brass.

Where will you get the brass and how much will you pay for it?
I get once fired 300 win mag brass for dirt cheap at the range.... where would I get 338 brass? Buy brass for 2.50 each from lapua, or buy expensive ammo and reload.... oh well. anyway.

I have seen once fired 338 brass on the EE here for $1.35 each. Not too bad, thats where I would start.

Does anyone have experience with the FCP HS Stocked rifle as well as the 111F Long Range precision?

I am curious if the reduced weight of the 111 would result in obnoxious amounts of recoil.

Thanks

My new rifle build wears an HS Precision similar (same) to the FCP savages. I love the stock! It feels very solid and pretty heavy, which might be an asset for your recoil management. I have larger hand and a longer LOP and it fits me bang on, has a very large palm swell which I also like, did I mention I liked the stock! :D

I bought 400 1-fired pieces when these were for sale. Lapua headstamp and my first 100 is still going strong. 100 are loaded and ready to go, and another 200 brass sized, trimmed and ready to load. It worked out to be a good deal. I do not shoot my 338 like I do my .308, so the cost when reloading is really no big deal. I stock up on components to last a couple years, and forget about it.

The savage 338 LM would be a great gun to get.

I have one. Very comfortable to shoot. Very accurate. For the price I think this is a very good deal.

Mounted a falcon menace scope in it. Shame the scope failed while shooting at 600 yds.

I look forward to get this gun up to maximum ranges.

As I am following the discussion about reloading cost of the 338 LM, I start thinking I should maybe start looking for deals on brass - kind of buying the horseshoe before the horse... But honestly, whomever considers this caliber certainly doesn't have cost savings in mind! The 338 LM experiences a growing popularity because we think big and fast and muzzle break, etc., and that equals to lots of satisfaction and fun. Unfortunately the fun-factor always cost money, usually lots of money.
Hopefully the gun legislature changes in the next couple of month to our advantage and then its time for a FCP HS...

Big fan of my 110 BA, we work very well together and I'm down to $2 a shot with my reloads.

Nice pics Cadcam!
Yep! 338 LM is cool! Does anybody really need it from a practical point of view? Probably not. Some guys like big trucks, fast motorcycles, big exhaust pipes or big whatever... I need a 338 LM....

NOTHING WRONG! That's not what I meant! The exhaust on my bikes isn't stock either... I actually meant it is ok to have the things that make us happy.
