I know there's a few guys here with some serious knowledge on savage 99's . any info would be appreciated

Does the rifle have any family history? It has been restocked, that is not a savage factory offering from the time frame. The rear sight has also been change, that is a marbles and not a savage. That also was not a factory offering of the time. Neat looking old rifle, but unfortunately with the modifications it has lost all collector appeal.

If we had the calber and the serial# we could narrow down the year made and model of 99. I am guessing at the early 99F because of the take down and straight grip. What do you think Blair?

It is an 1899H 1914 in 30-30 if I remember correctly.

I was going by the size and height of the front sight. I thought the 99F was higher for some reason. Hard to tell the barrel legnth from the pic. Myself and Savage stand to be corrected from time to time

it is a 1899 in 30/30 under that is stamped CA then either a 3 or a 5 then either a H or A then M
looks like CA 3 HM serial # is 148528

Too bad it wasn't grandpa's rifle that he hand carved and built the stock for then it would at least have some personal value. As it is it is just a modified 30-30 worth what a shooter 30-30 goes for.

looks like I have my winter project, was scared to mess with it incase it was original. Now I can sand down the stock & recut the checkering .Its a shooter ( although from what i've read 99's are quite accurate) anyone know what bases I need , ya i'm going to scope it.

Weaver bases are 14 and 19 for regular bases and 114 and 119 for the tip of mounts.

Its drilled 1 hole in the front & 2 in back , that mean I should get the redfield 1 piece?
