Hi there,

I am looking for a picture of a Savage 99 22HP butt plate as I have one that needs a butt plate. I want to get the correct one for it.

Any help appreciated.

Let me know if you can email me a picture and I will send you my email address to send it to.

...Contact Maddog, a long time member on this site. He is the very best when it comes to older Savages. He will know where to go or who might have one. He also may have a picture.

I need to contact him about some Model 1920 information myself! ;)

Also, check out the Savage Shooters Forum. Maddog is there as well, plus a bunch of friendly Savage folk.

Just google Savage Shooters Forum. Plus, as SC says, 24 Hour Campfire. It's a great forum for all things.......:)

And get more info. There were a whole slew of Savage 1899 variants in .22 HP. The actual MODEL you have is more important than the chambering. Barrel length and shape, straight or pistol grip, solid frame or takedown, round or schnabel forend, barrel bands or not, and so on.

Judging by the serial range of it, it's most likely an 1899H which means it's gonna have the hard rubber buttplate on it.

20" take down barrel on it right?

Who's got the 1920? 300 or 250? Nice gun.

Well here are the details.

Model 1899

20" Barrel - Straight Grip - Take Down - Shell Counter - Slight Curve to base of butt stock

According to 99trix it is from 1917. Serial number is 1904XX

Maybe this will help better.

I have one with a metal butt plate (I have had 3) they were all numbers matching and original. The repo plates don't look too bad and can be found on eBay or from Joe Salter. Here is a link to the plates at Joe Salter's

I'll check tonight the metal one that I have, it will either be for an 1899H or 99G, the serial number will tell the tale! Judging that yours is missing and the stock has not been cut it probably originally was the rubber style that tends to break.
