As an American I can tell you that Savage made more Enfield rifles than any other country during WWII. The U.S. (Savage) also charged the British more for their Enfield rifles than any other Enfield made and also introduced many manufacturing shortcuts to "reduce cost". 
Give me a Long Branch and a Molson beer any day over a Savage.

I have a 1950 LB and a Savage, I prefer my LB too.
I just wish it didn't have the bolt release cut out in the receiver.
I prefer the older plunger method at the rear.
I was told by an American collector that the Fazakerley No.4 Mk.2's are the rifle to have. I'd like to pick one up someday.

I wouldn't bad mouth the Savage product too much. There is nothing to choose between them for accuracy and functionality. Cosmetically the LBs appear a bit nicer though. Around 38 yrs ago an Army buddy and I bought a full case of NIG(grease) Savages. They featured very pretty birch stocks which looked very nice with the parkerized finish. I always seem to have at least one Savage in the barn. My current one is a very nice -except for the dastardly Ishapore screw!!
I have a friend who used to amuse himself by building heavy barreled .223 Rem gopher guns on No4 actions. He put them in 1 piece stocks. The big truck axle barrels made the action look very flimsy. He would only do the .223 conversion on LB and Savage actions, claiming that the Brit made ones were not as strong. They looked like sh@t, but they were accurate enough.

And that, friends, is when you know you have an obsession with milsurps.

The American made Savage Enfield is built to British "standards", BUT as an American I find it hard to swallow the "cost" the British were charged and the manufacturing "shortcuts" that were forced on them.
The American public is also very much unaware of "what" the American "help and friendship" in WWII cost the British. You have no further than to look at the war profiteering going on in the Iraq and Afghan war.
BUT if you really want to argue about American superiority and old wars fought long long ago...............................

P.S. My cousin "Johnny" Horton wrote and sang the historical ballad "The Battle of New Orleans" which won the 1960 Grammy Award for Best Country & Western Recording.

In 1814 we took a little trip, Along with Col. Jackson

They ran so fast the the hounds couldn't catch 'em on down
the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.
We fired our cannon till the barrel melted down, then we grabbed
an alligator & we fought another round. We filled his head with
cannon balls, & powered his behind 'n when we touched the
powder off the gator lost his mind.
We won that war BUT the Canadians are still capturing American territory led by my other cousin Tim Horton.
(The North East of the U.S. is almost completely under Canadian control.
Of note is the fact that even more "Hortons" were "exported" to Tasmania in Australia.

Unfortunately Tim Horton's side of the family played Hockey and stayed loyal to the King.

Oh hell, I am still getting my head around the Grande concept at starbucks...yet timmy does make a rocking apple fritter, even if they are frozen on delivery....did I say that out loud!!!!!
Long branch or Savage...hmmm...does it go BANG??? Then that suits the bill just fine for me. Got both, and both are top flight, could choose on or the other.

Its amazing how many people didn't notice a difference when they changed over. I did & Timies baked goods have always seemed stale since.

Neither is worth more than the other when 'bubba'd'. However, like Can-down says, a Savage made rifle is worth a bit more Stateside.
Not that it really matters, but when the Savage contract ended, all the remaining rifles, parts and machinery was sent to Long Branch. Had a Savage on my MIU, long ago. It shot the same as any of the LB made rifles.
