When I'm reading up on forums such as this one, I'm seeing a lot of guys and gals calling for the old model 99.

A lot of people want savage arms to start building the 99 again. When I was 15, I took my first mulie with a 308 99C. I have owned the 99C and 99E (both in 308) however I just recently sold the 99E.

Now I see nothing wrong with the model 99s other than I can't shoot them worth sh!t. I know many (including my brother) are deadly with them. However I stick to my bolt guns. I'll keep my 99C for sedimentary purposes.

It would be interesting to see what savage would do to the 99 if they started building them again. Would they add an accutrigger? Could they make them even more accurate?

Looking through buy/sell forums and local gun shops, there always seems to be people selling model 99s and people buying just as quick as they go up. SO to me personally there always seem to be lots of people selling them, therefore usually pretty easy to find one.

So is there really a market for a new model 99? I believe the old adage "don't fix it if it aint broke" comes into play.

The model 99 is a classic to be desired by many. I ask all of you 99 lovers

*why should they start making the 99 again?
*would you change anything about it?
 
I had one in .243. It was a beautifully built gun and handled like a gun should. In a moment of temporary insanity I sold it. Still wish I had it and would buy another if I found the right one. I wish Savage would make them again, but from what I understand, they were very pricey to make. That would mean that Savage would ask a pretty penny for a new one, or they would cut corners to make it a less expensive retail price. Either way would hinder sales.
 
If Savage made it now, it would have a cheesy plastic stock, accutrigger, barrel nut, hidden magazine, and people would swoon over it!!
 
So you guys wouldn't want these?

Apparently savage destroyed all the equipment used in manufacturing the 99 after it was discontinued.To reintroduce the rifle again would mean starting from scratch and a large capitol investment.I personally think the 99 is one of the finest deer rifles ever produced(and i'm a bolt action guy).
 
I have owned a pile of 1899s and 99s, and still have a bunch.

I can't imagine what might possess me to buy a new one, in the unlikely event one were offered for sale by Savage.

But I have to admit my curiosity about what might constitute "sedimentary purposes?" Is it like the dirt left in an old magazine? Just curious.

I already have a really nice .250 and a .300, both in the EG model. I would seriously consider a new 99 only if they made them at a decent quality of fit and finish. Tang safety, option of rotary mag or clip. I'd be quite happy to pick one up in 7mm-08 or .338 Federal or some such. The four Savage chamberings would be a nice option for people who either don't own a classic model or are nervous about hunting with a mint 99 or 1899. In line with what Winchester charges for 1885's and 1886's, etc., I'd expect a price tag of around $1200 to $1500 to be the order of the day. It's a niche market, but there is a certain demand.
