I have a Savage Long Action Centerfeed that has been laying around for a while. I am getting ready for my next project a rifle for my son. I am gonna chamber the barrel in 7mm-08. I'd like to use it if I can.

Has anybody used a long action for short action caliber build? I am aware I will need a new bolt head. I am mostly interrested in the Magazine box?

Thanks

the difference in action lengths is roughly 3/16 of an inch, your good to go and I doubt you'll have any feeding issues as the extra mag room will allow you to seat the bullets out farther and chase the lands if you so decide to do so

This is good to hear. I am wanting to build a 22-250 AI, pushing the 90gr VLDs. they just bearly fit in a SA mag and others say that with the 40degree shoulder that there are chambering problems.. I bought a couple of Stevens 200s in 270cal to use for this build. I was thinking that the extra length of the LA would help with chambering.

Hoping Im right?

What is the current chamber on the rifle? If you need a LA RH 308 bolt head, let me know

Consider the 7x57 mauser.. why not, you have the extra room.

I think maybe this was a typo ??

j-b..........action length, as is being discussed here, is not measured by the ejection opening nor the mounting screw spacing.....................It is measured by the bolt throw and maximum magazine length. I know short 700s will take a COAL of 2.85" +/- and long ones will accommodate a COAL of 3.60" +/-..............don't know anything about long or short Salvages though.
