A few years back my wife bought me a Savage M 111 in .270 winchester.
It is the left hand version with blind magazine.
This entire time I've owned it I have loved it and hated it at the same time.
It's very accurate out of the box but every once in a while when hunting with it the mag. caused problems.
The shells in the mag. would occasionally get "hung up" inside the mag. and refuse to come up high enough for the bolt to strip a fresh round out when the action was cycled.
I've had it to a Savage repair shop twice and they couldn't replicate the problem, but it persisted while hunting at a later date regardless.
What I have discovered thru extensive testing with dummy rounds is this| The mag. follower in my rifle is apparently the same one used in their right handed rifles. That means the "high" side of the follower is on the right side of the mag.
If you don't watch very carefully and rotate the 2nd round opposite the way it naturally wants to turn, it forces the 1st round on top of the high side of the follower and causes the follower to sit really cockeyed and angled really badly which prevents the spring/follower from pushing the rounds in the magazine upwards, thus jamming up the works.
If I very carefully rotate in the second shell so that the 1st one goes to the left hand side of the mag. , problem solved, No issues!
Sorry for the long read, just hoping this might help out someone else.
Cheers
Eric
