I just received this rifle used form another member here. It has had little use as I was told and is in excellent shape. I have fired 40 rounds out of it today and about every third or fourth round does not go off. If I take the round out it has a noticeable mark from the firing pin and when I put it back in it always fires. If I just twist the bolt to re-#### the firing pin and pull the trigger it will always fire as well. Any idea what may be causing this and/or how I go about fixing it? The bolt had lots of oil on it which I cleaned all of but it made no difference. I only had one ammunition brand to try but have to get some more anyway.

Mine does this too. Brand new, and yes it's been cleaned. I was blaming it on the winchester ammo, never had a single issue with the other brands I used first.

If you were seeing a noticeable dent in the case from the firing pin after each ftf, my guess would be that it is the ammo. Winchester rimfire ammo in my experience is pretty crappy, almost as bad as Remington. I think I ran one box of Winchester through my .17 had pretty bad results with it too, I know that the .22WMR I tried was awful and had multiple ftf with it.

The best I've used in the .17 has been Hornady.

And the most consistent ammunition in my Cooper was the Winchester Supreme. I had zero misfires or cracked cases, and they were more accurate than any of the several other loads that I tried.

First... use a liberally soaking of bore cleaner in the action... dry everything off and oil lightly... next, if you were shooting Winchester ammo, try some Hornady... all of ours shoot best with the 20 grain XTP loads... with all due respect to "Stubbles," Cooper experience, all six of our 93R17's had numerous misfires with Win ammo... and many split cases... don't know why, it was just our experience... however it has been three years since I have tried any WIN ammo.

And your experience seems to be common with Savage rifles. I had no issues with my CZ 452 either, but I only shot a few boxes through it, vs over a thousand rounds through the Cooper.
