Is there anywhere that explains Savage magazines?

I know that the Axis has the plastic tab on the magazine itself and there are also magazines for the model 10 and 11 that have the securing tab on the mag well but how the heck do you figure this out? How do you confirm and also confirm when buying mags online when the vendors show no picture or the same picture.

Also, the 7.62x39 Model 10, I cannot find spare mags for it but I did see online that they are the same as the 22-250 mag, is this true?

Thanks

Even better, they changed the Axis mag a few years ago when they changed to the accufit stocks. I'm not sure about the 10/110, but I wouldn't be surprised if they've changed mags at some point either.

Model numbers are likely your best option. If the dealer doesn't include the model number, you might have to contact them for clarity.

Here is a pic, right is 7.62x39 model 10, top left is 243 model 11 in accu stock, bottom left is model 11 223 with a heavy barrel.

Does the mag with the U shaped tab fit into the mag well intended for the mag with the push button release? (Are the two on the left of your pic interchangeable?)

The 2 on the left are not interchangeable but the U shaped one on the bottom seems to go into the one at the top but not the other way around.

Good, the push button mags seem hard to find, good to know the U shaped mag release will fit.

I actually have a short action mag, was the original mag in this 243 when it had an old plastic stock on it. I got the gun from my brother, he threw the old stock away and ran and MDT chassis, kept the bottom metal but I found a complete accustock assembly, so I have both.

Anyway, back to it, the original mag fits in but you really have to push but it does click in. I grabbed an empty and put it in the mag, sure enough the bolt strips it off and chambers the empty. So it looks like I can use this type of mag in the 243 and at this point I have a spare.

Now, the one on the right, anyone know if a 22-250 mag of this style works in the 7.62x39?

I think I have a model 16 axis that had the lower left style magazine. When the tab broke off I was having the same issue trying to replace it.

I ended up buying 2 of the top left style, and had some very minor adjusting to get them to work properly. It has been a while now so I don't recall exactly what was involved, but it was not a difficult or lengthy process.

My local Can Tire has the one pictured on top left, in the 22-250 rem size. They are asking $87.49 plus taxes.

I did see one on town post, guy is asking $50. Out of Logan Lk.

The funny thing is the model and item numbers are the same of the styles pictured on the left. Most show a picture of the bottom left but actually when you look at it they are the ones top left.

Don't know what will fit your 7.62x39. You might need to do some more research on that one. I'm sure someone has something out there.

Okay, some quick google searches have pulled up this:

https://www.bullseyenorth.com/shop/savage-magazine-10-11-12-762x39-4-round-steel-blued-55221-6088

When I search google with the 106239 part number is pulls up this:
https://www.midwestgunworks.com/page/mgwi/prod/106239

So it makes one think that the 22-250 mag might work.

Also come across Mag3D. Guy 3D prints magazines. Seems he lists the 22-250 and the 7.62 as the same magazine, so that should answer your question of being the same thing. Should be able to find the 22-250 mags in a few places. Just use the model or part numbers and do a few searches. Remember though, the actual on line picture might be of the bottom left, but it might in fact be the top left, (hopefully). I guess you could always call the store where you find stock and have them look at it.

The can tire web page shows the bottom left, but when you go in store it is actually the top left mag.

It was the 3D printer guy that made me think the 22-250 one would work.

Looks like Epps may have one for the 7.62x39, I have to jump on there and see if I can order it, maybe they have the other ones too, save on shipping.

I have one of the mags here with no release on the front of it, .223 if you are interested in trading for one with a front release or swapping bottom plastic pm me.

This is of interest to me - I had bought what was called a "Savage Axis Scout" in 7.62x39 - has that flush mag with the "U" shaped tab on it. I have not broken it yet, but pretty sure that I will in the cold. The Seller also included a 3D printed magazine - has MAG3D.CA logo on one side; other side is marked 22-250x6 - seems to fit and click in fine, holds 7.62x39 ammo - except it protrudes below the stock line. Is not much "Scout" about an Axis Scout, except that it does have a rail to allow an IER scope - so I wanted to try to retain that flush magazine - no retailer, nor Savage, lists a replacement mag for it - so maybe as above, there is another type that will work.

I bought the one that was at Epps for the 7.62x39, this is going to be the hardest to find.

Interesting enough I see the confusion on this thread, lots of links to the push button style in the wrong loading or push button in plate of the plastic tab.

All the more reason to find a backup for each of them before it is too late.

Model 10 in 223, push button on the mag, SAVAGE USA said they are on backorder. 9 month later no supply's. Paid 100 buck at auction to have a spare.

Picked up a older Model 10 pre-accu trigger cheap due to failure to feed. The folded over catch tab at the front of the mag had broken off. Therefore mag out of alignment. NEW mag fixed all.

I wish I could find the ones at the top left, or on the right.

Have you taken a look on Savage site? They have good clear pics of magazines and you may be able to match up the product number with the one you are looking for. I have 2 older model 11's that would not work with their current model 11 mags.

Funny enough they have the old style tabs but they no longer make those. The website does not show a single push button style just the tab style, which is not being made anymore.

Here is a video to show, the push button is the new style magazine so those ones will replace the tab ones.
