Is there anywhere that explains Savage magazines? I know that the Axis has the plastic tab on the magazine itself and there are also magazines for the model 10 and 11 that have the securing tab on the mag well but how the heck do you figure this out? How do you confirm and also confirm when buying mags online when the vendors show no picture or the same picture. Also, the 7.62x39 Model 10, I cannot find spare mags for it but I did see online that they are the same as the 22-250 mag, is this true? Thanks
The only way to be confident that we're buying what we think we're buying is to use the numbers (specific to that model). Sometimes the pics will be useful, but sometimes the pics do not depict the actual product that we will receive. Savage will have on the packaging two numbers, Savage's product number (which is typically five digits), and the product's assigned Universal Product Code (or UPC, which is typically twelve digits). If in your communication with the seller you use the manufacturer's product number and the UPC (specific to that model), you can be assured that you're talking apples & apples. Generally, using the manufacturer's product number and the UPC (specific to that model) will get you what you want.
But not always.
In the case of Savage magazines, Savage has changed the Axis magazine but - in their wisdom - kept the same product number and the same UPC. Old stock remains in inventory, and new stock may be available, but either way they both have the same Savage product number and the same UPC. I asked Savage about this (because the new style magazine was not depicted on the Savage website, and only the old style was shown) and I was told that "some of the pics haven't been updated". When I asked Savage how a customer, or a retailer, or a distributor, was to determine which type was on offer (for sale), it was suggested that one could reference the pics.
So... buyer beware, when it comes to purchasing Axis magazines, if the style matters to you.
