Thinking of buying new a Savage mark 2 fv. browsed EE and found some used for sale. Was wondering why all these people would part with such a gun. is it not that good? why don't they like it? its not that expensive that they'll make a lot. there must be a reason for selling. i'm looking for something that will be very accurate (.5 - 1.0 ") at 50 yds. am I going to be disappointed in this gun?

Why not ask the people selling them? Maybe they are upgrading, changing action type etc. They are good rifles, maybe not just to everyone's liking.

The basic stocks on them aren't that great, unless it's the tacticool or a boyd's.
One size does not fit all.

By the way .5 to 1" at 50 isn't all that accurate. Less then .5" then you are getting there. As for why everyone is selling them I can't say about them but for me I bought a cz and sold all the savages. Hear lots of people say they shoot as good as a cz but in my experience I had like 6 savage rimfires and none shot close to as good as my cz's do. I think lots are sold new because they are cheap

I think I'd be pretty happy with .5" @ 50 yards. :) I don't do it that often!

To the question~I think it's more a matter of how many are out there vs. the Savage M2 FV being a problem gun. Like saying Honda Civics break down more than any other car, and leaving out the detail that 1/2 the cars on the road are Honda civics. Personally, I used to really like Savage bolt actions for the value they represented but there seems to be a sad combination of increasing prices, and decreasing quality control with Savage rimfires, and I was saying that before this B-Mag situation! I haven't had that many Savage rimfires, and even I've had a couple of stinkers. I took a chance on a Mark II FV-SR in recent months and it's a shooter, but I'd be lying if I said I knew it would be. Feels a little more like luck. It has, by far, the worst metal finishing of anything I've ever owned. The machining on the barrel is so rough that when I wiped it down with a lightly oiled rag, it literally starts to grind a hole through the cotton. Not just my FV-SR, but every one I've seen. Damn accurate though.

There is nothing wrong with the FV model... It is my favorite base model for a build... I agree that the metal work finish on the FV-SR is not good at all... I currently have two guns that started as FV's; an HM2 and an LR... They are both very accurate... Particularly the HM2...

Off topic Hoyt~but how did you end-up with an M2'd barrel on an FV? I think I'd be expanding my 17M2 collection beyond 1 rifle if I could actually buy ammo for it. I haven't seen 17M2 ammo on a shelf since about July of last year.

I ordered in a case of Hornady M2 ammo, so I'm good for awhile... Savage has been making the F & FV HM2 for a few years... I also have an BVSS HM2 that I did work on, but one of them is going in the EE shortly, don't know which yet, but I don't need two... I also have a BVTSS in HMR also...
