Savage Mark I-G .22 smoothbore

I was poking around on the Savage website, and found the Mark I-G smoothbore in the singleshot rimfire section.

What are they used for?

22 long rifle shot shells, useless against anything other them pie plates at five feet. believe they a number 12 shot and have no effective range imho.

hmmm, but if you're using the aforementioned .22 lr shot, would rifling really affect the spread at a distance of 5 feet?

Ah, looked on Rimfire Central and it seems a smoothbore gives a better pattern out to much further.

I wonder what the accuracy is like when firing normal rounds.
