I need to get a new 22 LR and have narrowed it down to either a Savage Mark II BTVS or a BRNO #4. I like the looks of the Savages and have heard that they are fairly accurate, but i have also been told that a BRNO #4 will shoot as good as anything. I like the #4's but I am unsure about the older guns. The actions seem solid and operate smooth, but how good are they?

If anyone has one of these rifles please let me know what the are like, or feel free to give other sugestions (I would like to spend around $600, and want a bolt)

Thanks for the input

Can't say for sure on the BRNO #4, but I had this same dilemma between the Savage, an older Anschutz 310 and the CZ 452 varmint model. I bought the Anschutz and it is much better quality than the Savage, the fit and finish is significantly nicer and the trigger makes the accutrigger look like a hack piece of work. I like the Savage and they definitely shoot well, but the older Euro guns will be better finished if you care.

I can't say if the 310 shoots any better than a Savage because I just got it a couple of weeks ago and the weather has been horrible. I should get out after Christmas to give it a workout.

The bruno #4's are usually very, very accurate guns. You would have to get an axceptional Savage to compete with it.

Also the #4's if you buy it right will still be worth what you paid for it 10 yrs from now.

Are you looking to shoot with a scope or peep sights?

i have a savage mark 2 bvs it is only my second firearm and it is accurate. i am a realtive newbie and so is my dad and we can both do 5 shot groups at 50 yards with from a rest with a 4 power scope that are 1 ragged hole. what i dont like about the rifle is that i when i am squeezing the trigger i can hear the the internals sqeaking and groaning before it fires even though the trigger pull is quite smooth.
just my .02 cents

if anyone knows a remedy for this i am all ears

fuzzy

Savage is nice, and shoots really good, but its not a BRNO.... I have a BV and also a BRNO #5.

You will pay more for the BRNO, but like mentioned above it will be worth the same or more in 10 years.

I have had 3 or 4 # 3 and #4's. I don't think there is a better rifle for the money anywhere.
Will shoot anything out there regardless of price.
they are heavy if you want to carry them all day.
I would take a 4 or a 3 , thou eather are great

If you'd take a Lakefield...err...Savage over a BRNO then there is truth to the addage, "There's a sucker born every minute.".

If you're willing to spend the bucks, the BRNO is the only choice.

I have a couple of CZ452s and a couple of Savages with Accutriggers. While they are all crazy accurate, the CZs are the only ones that bring a smile to my face. CZs (and BRNOS) are like trophy wives that can cook, and take home 6 figures. Savages are like wives that can do the same, but need a paperbag in the bedroom, they are that ugly, IMO, compared to CZ/BRNO.

I don't know your price point but I'd suggest the following in terms of out of the box accuracy:

Anschutz
Sako
Weihrauch

All very good out of the box guns.
