Savage Mark II-FV Accuracy

Yeah mine has dual extractors.

question whats a good way to clean the area around the breech, i have trouble getting in there, i find it gets quite dirty after a day at the range.

I wish they'd sell the .22LR rifles with the option for the sweet laminated thumbhole stock like they have on one of the .17HMR rifles.

yeah that would be awsome, i have trouble making sure my hand is the exact same every time. does anyone have any hints or good ideas to ensure uniform hand placement?

Question, has anyone heard of a rifle designed to float in water? while we are on the subject of stocks i was thinking if you could get one and hollow it out somehow. and seal up some air in it. it would be good if you were going out into a chest deep swamp or something. (random thought)

I think you are getting carried away...

You could probably make a synthetic stock float, but the action of the rifle would cause it to sink....

Why in the world would you want to walk thru a swamp with a rifle??? Are you going after Sasquatch??? I think you have been watching to many War movies.... I am in the Military, and you Keep it out of the water at all costs. If you are hunting in the fall, why would you walk into a cold swamp? Go around it.

Go get some different ammo's and practice on the range with your savage, instead of dreaming of walking thru a swamp chest deep and using your rifle for a paddle....

well yeah you keep the rifle out of water, i was just musing about a way to help a person out if they goofed and dropped it in the water.

Dont worry im not a mood to go off into the deepest darkest swamp and use my rifle/paddle. right now my #1 is getting the lead where i want it. if i feel up for that sort of thing later id see what i could do then.

good news im going to the range today so i should be able get some groups to show for my savage. Just hope im not too embaressed by them :)

well i got to the range, last weekend. I shot a bundle of groups. quite frankly most of them sucked. i had bad trigger control. but i did get one nice one :)
it was a 10 shot group at 50 yards, i pulled the trigger on four of them, but the other 6 were nice and tight. like under .5 inch for the 6. so its doing not too badly. im hopefully going again tomorrow, ill try to post some more groups if i get some good ones

Unfortunately the groupings must count all shots..... either try 5 shot groupings at first and then move to 10 shot.....

You can't dismiss the shots you don't want and then count the grouping with the good ones.

I am going to try and get my mark ll-BV out to the range on monday for the 50 metres... I have to pick up some different ammo to try, I also want to try a box of ELEY in it....

Have you tried different ammo than just the cheap Eagle crap....

well yeah, i know you cant count just the shots you want, (hey look, i got a 1 shot group!, never mind the 9 i pulled :) ) but its a ray a hope to have 6/10 under 1 moa, and 4 that were close.

im going to use up the american eagle i have now, ive got about 400 left, then ill use my dyna points up ive got about 450 of those. they are a bit more accurate then the AE. but i was only able to get one brick. the only otherone ive tried was thunderbolt and its total crap. once i run out of ammo i was going to go and get 50 rounds of each brand they had. like all the ones that were under 2.5 dollars for 50.

so far AE and Dyna are the good shooters.

I heard some poeple having luck with Dynapoints.... but some of the better ammo for groupings are up in the 4 to 5 dollar range. You can try some Eley, maybe some CCI etc... Lapua if you can find them are supposed to be quite accurate...

I have tried some American Eagle is my other 22's with very poor results, and I think it was the dirtiest ammo I have ever
shot.

Don't expect to pay a 1.49 for a box of ammo and expect it to shoot 1/2inch groupings... Use that crap for plinking and test some better ammo to see what you rifle can do...

that is why you are getting flyers and will probably never get tight, consistent groupings.... Don't shoot crap and expect perfection.....

There are a lot of 22 rounds to try, so "Just Do It"

k, when i get some spare cash kicking around ill grab some of the slightly more expensive stuff. any brand names i should really avoid?

Buy one box (50) rounds of different ones to test. Don't buy a brick unless you know its going to shoot accurate in your rifle.

Eley and Lapua are good. Some winchesters, I have had luck with. You will probably find the High Velocity or super high velocity less accurate for target shooting, but not always.

I've crossed quite a few swamps carrying a rifle (carrying anything from Swedes, Garand, K98, AR15). Sometimes when walking in the bush you just come across an area where you gotta do it if you want to keep going. Some got too deep, had to turn back, some you can cross - albeit carefully, especially the first time. On a hot day in the summer a swamp can be a nice place to cool off when wading through waist or chest deep. - really. It's actually fun to take newbs for swamp crossings, especially when they thought you were joking when you told them BEFORE the outing what they should expect. Had one self professed experienced moose hunter come out for an excursion in high top runners. Kinda funny when his runner came off in waist deep swamp and he had to try and find it under water sucked in the mud - took a awhile. It wouldn't have been fun walking back if he didn't find it.

I tried some dynapoints in my Lakefield Mark II this weekend they tightened up my groups a little. I managed a couple 1.5" groups at 100 yards. However I only have a 4x32 so when I put the crosshairs on the target the bull was completly covered by them. I'll try with a different target I can see a little better next weekend. I am still hoping to go sub-moa but I don't really think the rifle is capable. Its also hard to find different ammo to try around here, most places only stock the cheap stuff like wildcat/AE/or Xpert. I would like to get my hands on some higher end stuff though. Does anybody know where I can order it, and how would it have to be shipped?

On another note, the other day when I was in, someone had a black peice of roofing felt put up on the target board. It was a bright sunny day and when I pulled the trigger I thought I was seeing things the first time, but you could actually watch the bullet making it's arc going down range. It was pretty cool to see but also kind of dissapointing as well because I'll tell ya, every bullet didn't follow the same path. However it was a little gusty that day too so that may account for a lot of it.
