Thinking about picking one up, 300 at Cabela's. Seems like a good trainer and good for an odd hunt. Any one shoot or own one ?

I have one in .22 and one in .17 and love them, both of mine are the FVSR models with the 16" threaded barrel and oversized bolt knob.

I've got the base model (mark II F) with the regular barrel. Zero complaints here. Mine doesn't like winchester ammo (fails to eject frequently), otherwise it functions like a dream.

I can agree with the comments about the stock being plastic and crappy, but for the price of the gun, whatever. I've always dreamed of throwing a boyds or something on it, but I never seem to have the spare cash, something else always ends up taking precedence... My one piece of advise is to check the fit around the barrel. Sometimes the stocks contact the barrel, and even if it doesn't the stock has a lot of flex in the forearm, so you might want to remove some material to make sure the barrel stays fully floated regardless of how the gun is held. Nothing 15 minutes with some sand paper doesn't fix.

Try doubling up the ejector and extractor C band spring, call Savage in the USA and explain the problem and they should send you a new spring clip and extractor also if needed, if your extractor is fine just install the new spring clip over your old one.

I have an FVSR in .22. Got a Boyds tacticool stock, pillar bedded it and put a Nikon 3-9 on it. I love that rifle, so accurate and comfortable to shoot.

I don't agree with above poster that the plastic stock is usable. It's comb height is for iron sights, and it's garbage.

Also, that stock cost me $170 before the dollar tanked. And if you restock one you should call Savage in Canada for new action screws, b/c the original ones I got were too short with the new stock. Savage sent them to me free of charge.

If restocking it, a good upgrade is the DIP bottom metal and screw kit, if using the plastic stock you for sure need a cheek riser, I just bubba'd up risers for mine with some roll bar padding while I was waiting on my boyds stock, it got me by fine.

I have the wood stock HB in 17hmr....very accurate, accutrigger is passable, but not target grade by any means, pretty crappy really. Good gun though, would buy another.

I have one and although it's a lot of fun I have a lot of FTE problems if it's not perfectly clean. Also tried a ton of different ammo and best it will group for me is 3/4" at 25m. No idea if any good or not

I have an mark II FV that I put into a Boyd's thumbhole stock. It shot well before. Now it shoots amazing. This is a 5 shot group at 50 m
