Savage Mark II G and scope bases

I bought a Savage Mark II G a while back. It of course has iron sights but now I'm thinking a scope would be nice. Been looking at the Bushell rimfire scope nothing fancy. My problem is this model has no dovetails for rings to mount too. Seems I need to but a couple of Weaver base mounts? Excuse my complete ignorance!

So I went to the Weaver web site and it seems I need 2 Weaver 16 (48016) base mounts? Sound right? Anyone?

The confusion comes in when I search this and other forums, seems there are several Weaver mounts that will fit? Others have mentioned 12, 24 etc...:confused: I assume there must be differences between all these? Height maybe? Positives/negatives? If someone can answer or point me to a link or web site that can explain it would be awesome!

They're different heights in bases. I have used either the 15s or 16s with success. Go with those and be happy.
 
nevermind with those small weaver bases, get yourself a rail for it. Evolution Gun Works makes 0 MOA (flat) and 20 MOA rails for the Savage MkII/93, and I believe they ship to Canada.

the need for 20MOA scope base would be entirely dependent on the type of glass being used, no?

i'd like to hear how far some Mark II shooters have shot and what kind of glass they've used on their platforms.

A 20moa rail is good for long range rimfire shoots, greater than 150yds. Anything less than that a 0moa would do well.

As for cost of these, they are around $60 shipped, more than the $10 is would cost for the cheap Weaver bases, but allows you to adjust the position of the scope on the rifle better. I've had a couple scopes that I couldn't get the eye relief right, and a rail solved that.

yeah, good point - eye relief can be adjusted more freely with a rail.
