Hi, im very new to the whole firearms scene and i had a couple questions regarding my first rifle. I have read a lot of reviews on the savage mark II BV and it seems to be quite the rifle and is at the top of my list because of it's price and the fact that its a bolt action. I was just wondering what the difference between the LV and BV are because i cant seem to find info on the LV anywhere.

BV is Brown laminate, LV is Grey laminate. Everything else looks and reads the same.

I grabbed the MarK II 22LR FV Black Synthetic. Exactly the same as the LV/BV just with a synthetic stock, and much cheaper. I love it, great choice for a first rifle!

Only the price changes.

I have the BV, havent been able to shoot it yet but the fit and finish is nice, I didnt see how the grey stock was worth $30 more?

Excellent choice. I have a pre-accutrigger FV which I installed a brown laminate thumbhole stock form Boyds. They are very accurate rifles.

I'm also looking at the Mark II as a first rifle. Whats the difference between the F and the FV? The FV has a heavyier and slightly longer barrel? Does this make a big difference? Worth the extra 50 bucks?

What range do you want to be able to shoot at?? If you are looking ot shoot 150+ yards then I would go for the longer barrel and heavier is a huge advantage if you are going to shoot volumes such as gophers and such. A heavy barrel will obviously take the heat from large amounts of shooting. My opinion is the 50 bucks is well worth it.

Yeah I was thinking the heavier barrel of the FV would be better. I plan at shooting at cans and gophers from anywhere between 10 yards and however far I can hit them.

For a lot of bench shooting, the heavier barrel would be nice as it keeps it cooler.

If you plan on hunting with it (small game), the lighter barrel is nice for when you're trudging through the bush for hours on end.
