does any one have either these 2 savage mark II models?

how do you like it/them pros-cons?

anything you would change or advice?

im looking at these 2 models to put in my roster of possibilities for my new .22 purchase

as of now i just have the 10/22 on the list
 
My opinion is that either one will easily outshoot the 10/22. If you are not satisfied with the 10/22 accuracy and start down the typical road of replacing every part on it with aftermarket stuff, they become a very expensive gun before you are done. But if customization is part of the hobby, then the 10/22 has no limits.

The Savage on the other hand tends to shoot well out of the box, and depending on the model you start with, there is very little opportunity to customize. It works already. You can fairly easily tune the AccuTrigger, down to under 1 lb. You can also bed it to reduce sensitivity to action screw torque, but that is about it. Not really economic to replace the barrel.

On the BV the only thing I do not like is the plastic trigger guard and mag cover. The TR is interesting. Some report it to be a real shooter. Others are having issues. Up until recently all Savage rimfires were made in Canada at the old Lakefield factory. But the TR is being made in the US if forum sources are correct. They seem to be having a few start up issues with quality control, again based on forum posts at RFC.

I have the BTVS model, and like it. I was real close to the BV but backed off because I planned to use a 50mm scope and knew it would be high. The BTVS stock has the extra height to get your eye up to the scope. The TR I believe is adjustable, which may be even better. Not sure about the TR, but the BTVS has a metal trigger guard and mag cover. You can replace the plastic on the BV with metal parts from Savage but it requires some inletting.

wow thank you very much for the info...i was just thinking that the 10/22 is nice but its so common and after reaserching it for a bit i discovered that the range on them out of the box was roughly 125yards (give or take depending on the shooter i asked) i want more of a precision .22.. as some of my shots (though stretching the limits) take us out to 150..my shooting partner got a rabbit last year at roughly 200yrds...

and to pick up the savage is $130 less that the famed 10/22
 
I have both the Savage TR and Ruger 10/22 and bone stock from the factory, the Savage wins hands down. Nothing wrong quality wise with the Ruger, its a great gun and works well. But in my opinion I hate their sights. Triggers are absolutely terrible and the lack of a last shot hold open or having to hit the bolt release at the bottom is annoying. But the Savage is perfect from the factory. I know they don't have sights but the trigger is beautiful and once worked in the bolt is so smooth! In regards to stocks I really prefer the straight grip style on the Savage and find the Ruger to have a horrible angle which is uncomfortable on my wrist.

All in all... I usually take my TR with me to the range every time I go (unless its late at night and I'm just shooting indoors). The 10/22 wears an older Tasco Pro-Point and just sits in the safe as a noob trainer and I simply bring it out for my younger brother or my cousin and his girlfriend to play with. I will admit though with the announcement of the G36 stocks for the 10/22 I will defiantly be getting one of those as well as parts needed to fix the annoying action issues/trigger pull in which case I imagine it will then get a lot more use. But 100% stock I have no use for it.
 
I have shot both savages in accutrigger models. Never owned a 10/22 and may never as the savages outshoot me more times than not. You will not go wrong with either model. I get moa accuracy normally with either, and sometimes bug holes when the stars align at 50m. Recommend the accutrigger models. In my impression the best stock 22LR trigger on the market. Good to see those savage guys up-ing the ante, it will get better products on other makes as they catch up.
 
I have a mark 11 bv, its accuracy is awesome and i really like the accutrigger. This aside i dont like the rifle, it just feels cheap, take it out of the stock and the cheap stamped metal feels sharp and crappy. For me part of the enjoyment of firearms ownership is handling something of quality fit and finish.

My wife who is not particularily discerning when it comes to firearms likes it(except when she pointed at a Heym at the gun store and said i want that one) so i will not get rid of it, my next .22 will be CZ.

I have 2 Savage Mark II riffles. Love them both, accurate out of the box. Mark II F (black) is lightweight, good bolt to carry anywhere, paid 189$tx incl. at Le Baron in Montreal. The Mark II BTV is my baby. Heavy as f*ck :D Great at the shooting range, paid 369$tx incl at Le Baron Montreal. Both are easy to take apart, to clean, to adjust. Go in store and hold them in your hands to see the one you like.

AND THEY ARE CANADIAN MADE!! :canadaFlag: Savage Arms is a USA company, but their rimfire riffles are made in Ontario, after they bought Lakefield Arms.

I decided on the BV but when i went in to do the touchy feely they had a BTV in 17HMR ooooo me likey,

so i decided on the BTV BUT!! they didnt have any of the BTV's in blued only stainless for the .22, they did not and will not bring it in for me in a .22 with the blued barrel..:mad: i am haveing a hell of a time finding the blued BTV in .22
 
well i just checked the savage website...my bad

i cant find the regular BTV without stainless in a .22 because they dont make the BTV in a .22 only the 93 series in the 17 hmr according to savage's site
 
i have the mark II TRR which i got from le baron's for the price of the TR.

i was originally looking at the FV for the price point, but i'm really happy i went with the TRR. the larger bolt is a must for me compared to the FV's. i wish i could get a bit of a lighter trigger, but it works good.
