Anybody has this rifle? Review?

I plan to practice with this rifle to achieve 1 MOA @100 yards from a benchrest. I want to improve my technique and develop some good habits to translate it to my LR shooting.

Will it be a good rifle for the task? If yes, ammo recommendations? If no, what would you recommend?

Thank you.

1 moa at 100 yards with a .22 rf isn't easy with any rifle/ammo combination.

Generally the best ammo money can buy is a good start. Wind is your enemy, early morning is often best conditions. You may have to bed the rifle. Get a good scope and do lots of practice.

Its a great way to develop your skills. There is so little recoil or muzzle blast that you can often see your technique problems as you set up to shoot.

No. As said above, 1moa @ 100 with a 22 rimfire is a stretch.
It will mean a lot of frustration.
You can try 100 and even more with a rimfire, it is fun and
you will learn a lot of things for long range shooting,
but set a goal for yourself that is achievable.

Thank you guys! Really appreciated.

The one thing I want to avoid is a frustration of not hitting the target. I will save it for 1000 yards, lol.

So, if still considering the rifle and the purpose in OP, 1 MOA in 50 yards would be a realistic goal?

My Anschutz 1450, off a crappy rest, will print that well if I do my part...even with non-match ammo. My rifle likes Federal Gold Medal Target so much that I've never tried it with the "good stuff". Ammo choice (and conditions) are HUGE factors where distance + .22lr are concerned. If any bolt action can pull it off, I'd say that Savage is a great candidate.

BTW~I'm no match shooter, and am about 99% more likely to shoot at pop cans than anything else.

Hi coldblood!

I own a TR in 22lr. for quite a while and I do not regret it.
The rifle is better than the shooter for sure...but I regularly hit a 10cts @ 50yds and @100yds I can hit a target the size of an inch!

ammo wise, mine likes subsonics like SK or Eley.
Hope this helps you

also below is a link from rimfire central which will be helpful if you have more questions

don't resist it, the savage is an accurate rifle. I don't have a TR, but my BSEV doesn't have much trouble hitting a shotgun shell at 100 yards. I have also printed 5 shot groups fitting under a dime with some decent ammo (I believe it was SK Standard Plus, would have to check my log). I don't think you'd be dissatisfied with a Savage

Mine is a Savage Mark II FV, it hits dime size targets at 50 Yards without hesitation, and that's with cheap Federal bulk ammo. You can easily knock the center out of a toonie without touching the silver rim.

I know they are very accurate almost everything I own is a savage :D. I had a markIIG but sold it to a friend and my 93r17 gets alot of play but is on the spendy side. So Now trying to resist this one because I just bought a new shotgun lol

Think i might spend the extra cash and get the CZ.

HAHA,

try finding one

Savage is so back order with these TRs right now, no one has them. I`ve been waiting a while for one in 17 HMR.

Damn, I hoped you were wrong... I have been to 4 stores today and checked online - nothing... (btw, ellwood had one I was looking for - mark ii trr-sr in 22lr. Unfortunately, sold).

I will keep looking. :(
