Savage Mark II TR - review please?

Is your LR shooting off a bench or for hunting?
My 40X .22 off a bench with a T36 has minimal transfer of information to 400 yards at a bear with my .280. It will be more useful this year when I start shooting Club 300 but I will be using my hunting rifles and not a benchrest centrefire.

I think that rail is COOL as hell...just kinda' useless. Had a real urge to get one until I held it and saw how WIDE the damn thing was. Corners were too sharp too, and I imagined it hanging-up on my soft cases.

One thing I did notice about the photos you posted~see the bolt handle on the TR? Did Savage go back to that and drop the bigger (better) one pictured on the TRR?
 
I hate that rail, its the only thing keeping me from buying the TRR as i find the threaded barrel kinda cool

Well, I know why the "SR" barrels are a reality, but if you're not able to use a suppressor, I far prefer the look of the previous, non-SR barrels. Way cleaner lines. In fact, if I ever own a TR/TRR it'll never be one of those. I'd try and track down an older model or buy used. Savage recently announced a new centerfire rifle called a "Hog Hunter" that really appeals to me (.223) EXCEPT that the first photo revealed of it has that silly-looking knurled cap over the threaded barrel end. No thanks.

As for those rails...just proof that Savage is doing a good job marketing their rifles, I'm glad they're making bold decisions design-wise. Broadens the options for everyone.
 
The factory rails on the TRR can easily be removed and replaced with standard mounts.

I'm in the process of removing the useless, HUGE factory rail from my Savage 10 BA and replacing it with a regular 20 MOA rail.
 
Hey Mason~are you after a new one, or would gently-used suffice? Might know someone planning on selling his. I can contact him and ask if you're interested. I can get an approx. round count too. He's in SW Ontario.

When I bought my 93R17 TRR-SR I didn't bother installing the tri-rail it comes with. The bases that come with the regular TR are of limited use as well. I went with a picatinny rail from EGW instead.

I do most of my .22 rf shooting at 50 yards. But its still fun to try 100 yards. The frustration is knowing that you did everything right and then watch a shot veer off an inch from the group!

I have a Savage MkII BV in .22lr ... awesome accuracy for a 350$ gun. I replaced the stock with a Boyd's Tacticool so now the stock is identical as well. It's basically same barrel, trigger and action I think, the only differences being the bolt handle and barrel fluting.

I use Standard Plus ammo and I have gotten 1MOA at 100 yards several times. Once you figure out the drop you are good to go! My only complaint is that the trigger is a bit heavy for LR shooting and every once and a while I get a fail to extract. I've posted pics somewhere in here with some range results.

Bottom line; it would be an excellent gun that will meet your needs.
