I am wondering about dropping Rifle Basix trigger into my Savage rifle.

Question,
anyone actually did that and what is the trigger now?
Is it well spend money?
Or maybe I should polish factory trigger a bit to make it break better?

Thanks

All new Savage rimfires have accu triggers. You may be able to trade up for less than a new trigger will cost on the older MKII. I don't know what a Rifle Basix is worth these days.

cheers Darryl

Darryl,
mine was one of the first year production rifles and has not come with accutrigger.
I like the rifle, shoots pretty good, however the trigger is heavy and inconsistent.

A rifle basix trigger mod would probably be worth the money. If you are up to polishing the sear, trigger, ect, and change some springs around that woul work as well.

I don't own a savage but I have worked on a few 10/22 triggers and my Marlin trigger. Easier then it sounds if you go slow ;)

Thanks,

I may try that and see what I can achieve.

My buddy have a SL8 in .223Rem and couldn't believe how bad was the trigger and no after market triggers are available. He started tinkering and
came up with simple solution. Replaced original trigger spring with the mouse trap spring and lower the trigger pull from over 10lbs to around 4lbs :)

Yup, thatl do the trick :)

My Marlin came with about a 5lb factory pull. All I did was change the trigger spring with a spring from a pen or a mechanical pencil and I changed the seer spring.

The strangest thing with the seer spring is that in order to decrease the pull weight you have to put in a heavier spring. I don't reall know how it works but it did. Lowered pull weight to around 2 lbs.

Good luck.

There's an article on rimfirecentral.com on how to improve the trigger on the Savage. Give that a try before buying the basix trigger. Basically you put a shim and change the spring to one from a pen. It worked pretty well for me.

You may also want to look at the Sharp Shooter Supply raplacement assembly. You can read about it on RimfireCentral.com

I am contemplating this trigger instead of the Rifle Basix. I think both would be good choices, however most on Rimfire Central seem to prefer the SSS overhaul. It is competitive in price with the Rifle Basix trigger, and they said they do ship to Canada. I e-mailed them last week, and they confirmed they will ship here.

It's just another option for you to consider.

Thanks Sean,

I will consider that. The only problem with this is gunsmith requirement. The have to file the bolt a bit.
Yesterday, I tried to lower the pull, it was 5-1/2lbs and after polishing and filing the trigger assembly for like 1hr, I was able to drop it down to 4 -1/2lbs. Not a big deal, I would love to have at around 1lb.
