Nah, anyone down to earth knows the Savage platform is capable of excellent performance when you don't get a Monday Special or a Friday afternoon delight. Like any factory rifle you get a bellcurve of performance and some do well, others not so much.
Personally, I don't care who's name is stamped on the barrel! It's about the rifle's ability to shoot tiny groups.

Agreed. I bought a Christensen Arms Ranger against all the warnings and it has been 100% reliable laser beam. It groups tighter than my CZ457 LRP.

Yep - I bought one last year and I'm very happy with the rifle. As you mentioned. CCI SV works well in mine too - I was shooting 3/4" groups at 50 yards from a bench, using a front bag. And that's with only 200 rounds down the barrel.

Good that you found a good deal, those are great little rifles. One thing I'd suggest is to get the GunShack Varmint trigger spring to cut the pull down quite a bit. You could end up ca 2# or so, Cleaning the insides of the bolt might help too, if you re-lube with a bit of PTFE grease. I found dried grease and debris inside my B22 bolt - chunks of cra* ?
Any idea where to get one of those in Canada? I've had a mk2 for years and never heard of that spring as an upgrade option.
Also their website says it only works with centrefire not rimfire, is there a different one for rimfire or did you just use the centerfire one?
Suther, Yes the springs work in the 22LRs and prob the 93s too. I put one in my my A22 but for my B22 I just did the 'heat with a bic' mod. The A22 went to ca 2# and the B22 is at ca 1#. I got mine thru a member on Savage Shooters forum. We were posting about B22 improvements and the springs came up. I had complained about Not getting those springs sent to Cant'ada due to ICAR and he sent me a couple for cost + postage. Came to about $20 CDN a couple years ago. He just put them in a small 'bubble-envelope.
As for "...usually more accurate then a 10/22! " for the money the 10/22 is a license to steal ! $4-500 + for 'beer can accuracy'. Too bad there isn't tons of Savage "Accessories" that a 10/22 NEEDS to be as accurate as a Sav MKII or B22. Then the Savs could compete with Annies. It's almost impossible to even get a really 'GOOD' barrel to replace the 'off the shelf' ones. My B22-FV is almost as accurate as my CZ455 or 457 using just stock parts.

i love my Savage Mark II FVSR almost as much as my CZ457. epoxy bedded it. added a cheek riser and modded the trigger to just under a pound. and put a target crown on it. the thing loves cci sv! get the odd flyer but it’ll do half inch or less at 50 yards all day long. great gun when i don’t want to break the bank on eley and sk!
PS - Suther, that 'only for Centerfire' is 'lawyer-speak' for Liability-avoidance. They probably sell more springs for 22s than C-fire. I just got lucky having the time (retired) to go on many websites and ran across discussions about them. I'm on about 15-or so sites, so get lots of ideas - most of which I can't afford !

I just go for the 'polish then PTFE' fixes. nelson, I find that my B22 and even Sav-64 do OK with CCI-S, but even better with SK +. I save the SK-RM for my CZ 457-VMTR. The SK ammo came into Canada thru distributors in late Feb so I jumped on a bunch. Sporteque and tesro had lots then, I dunnmo about now.
my fvsr does like eley and sk. it like the later more… but to be honest i get almost the same results with cci sv. but of course the sk and eley are more consistent. it shoots it wayyy better than my cz’s, go figure.
i took one of my 457’s out yesterday and lot tested 3 lots of skrm. they where all pretty close, one did stand out a little more and of course it’s the lot i have the least of! also have a lot of std+ that’s is supper nice.
If the Lakefield made Savage rifles seem to cost less than they should, it’s because they have been distributed directly from the factory without involving a US middleman. The rifle isn’t much cheaper to make than a CZ but there is a price difference.
It turns out there are benefits to having a domestic gun industry.
That and the R&D has been paid for long ago. I sure like my MkII.
