Looking to pick up a heavy barrel 22lr for some plinking and target practice for cheap.

Would this be an o.k. set up for up to 200yards?

- Savage FV
- Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40 mildot

Looking at picking up Leupold PRW rings but not sure on the height, any ideas.

Whats your opinions on the Savage 22lr rifles...I've never shot the little buggers before, always seemed to keep to the 22WMR for some reason.

The Savage MKII FV is awesome value for the money. Very accurate rifle and the trigger is great.
Saying that, I wouldn't use it to shoot 200 yards. It's a .22....

Your going to need a really calm day to get some rewarding results with a 22Lr at 200 yards. Even at 100 yards and some wind you get blown about.

You might also consider the BV. It weighs a bit more, but the laminated wood stock is a bit better shaped and seems better balanced. Also, the extra little bit of weight seems to help a bit with long range shooting. The cost is only a little bit more.

I have a 3-9x40 scope on my FV and there is still room for a wider aperture scope. You'll be fine with the high rings.

The Nikon Buckmasters are great...very clear. I have the 6-18x42SF on my .30-06, and I love it. Wish I could afford to put it on top of all my rifles.

I've looked at the BV model but not really a fan of the laminant stock....does anybody know if you can paint that stock with krylon?

It certainly looks like the stock would fit better than the FV model.

The FV I used to have (now Craig's) had a Nikon 32mm mounted with Burris low rings. It worked but I couldn't put the BC flip-up scope covers on the objective, just a hair too close to the barrel.
