Savage Mk II, Boyds Stock

I bought an At-One Boyds Stock for my Mk II BV and was disappointed that it didn't just "drop in". Notably, the original takedown screws are too long and won't give a tight fit between the stock and the action. Also, the cutout for the trigger is far larger than it needs to be. Lastly, the trigger guard from the original stock won't come close to fitting the new one.

My question: Is there anything I can do myself (I'm not incredibly handy), or should I get a gunsmith?

I recently purchased the At One for a 10/22. It did not fit at all. Was way too big in almost all dimensions. Like an idiot I got out my Dremel and went to town. Long story short I realized I shouldn't have to be doing the Bubba thing to make it fit. Contacted Boyds, sent pics, told them I had modified it. After a couple of email exchanges, they sent a new unit. Fit like a glove. Give their cs a call or email. You may have a lemon AT One like I did. They even covered the shipping.
