I have a Savage Mk II FV on the way, and as wondering what ammo they get the best results with? I know my rifle will vary, but seeing what other people get good results with and what they get poor results with will help me narrow down my choices.

Thanks.

Here is how some ammo tested in my Savage Mark II BTVS. Has same action and barrel as your FV. Listed from best to worst.

My savage mark 2 will put every bullet into the same hole...forever. The hole will get slightly larger maybe but every bullet goes into that ragged hole.

It shoots discount winchester Cdn Tire 500 round bult box ####.

That rifle can shoot anything super tight.

Thanks guys, great shooting. I have a MKIIF as well and haven't got down to your kind of groups...at least I know the rifle is capable if I am up to it.

Once (and only once... no matter how hard I tried) did smaller than 1 inch 5 shot group at 100 meters on a calm day but 1.5 to 2 inches is the norm at 100 m. with Win bulk Dynas.

1.5" at 100 meters with Dyanpoints would be very good shooting. I'm not sure I could do that. You should try some subsonics, and your groups should tighten up -- Lapua (SK), Eley, CCI SV, Remington Subsonics would be worth trying. HV loads wind drift 50% more than subsonic and target loads.

i should ad that it's hardly great shooting. This is done from a 'gun vise' aka lead sled.

My mark II is one with an accu-trigger as well.

It does illustrate what the firearm is capable of, however. I could not do the same without the gun vise.

Thanks for that chart. Nice to see people compilling this sort of info and not having a problem sharing. Although the reasults might vary from gun to gun, this information is, imho, quite helpful to narrow down the ammo you would like to start testing in your own rig.

I just got a Mark II BTVLSS and tried a few rounds of the Remington subsonics which weren't too bad (a few flyers) and the Federal Gold Medal Target were better (less flyers). With this list, I'm going to start some testing. Thanks again for the info.

Not to hijack the thread but can the accu-trigger be "altered" to drop the trigger pull lower than 2.5lbs? It's a nice trigger but I'd like something lighter like my Walther GSP. Thanks.

Yes. Some guys have been modifying and/or replacing the spring and stoning the components.
Lots of Savage activity over here:

:D:D:DCheater!!!:D:D:Seriously, the MKIIF is one heck of a sleeper, eh? Mine is a keeper for sure.

Vised or not, one-hole at 40 yds with bulk crappy tire ammo is just awesome!

As far as locally available ammo goes, my MKII-FV really came alive with blazers. The bulk federal, AE, and Winchester doesn't even come close in my rifle. Every rifle will be different, but make sure to keep blazers on your "to try" list. Also, my rifle will refuse to feed blunt ended hollowpoints such as Xperts, 333/555 and Yellow Jackets, they hang up badly when they try to feed. YMMV.
