Savage Mk II G - how to make it better

I'm not overly familiar with all the accessories and options I have for my Mk II G.

where can I look for better stocks?
better barrels?
better trigger groups?
other things I'm just to naive to know about yet?

Disclaimer: not a Savage Mk II owner.

I hear a lot of good stuff about Boyd's stocks: if they're under $100, you can order them from the US without any issues. (Except for the Tacticool ones: banned from export because of their Scary Military Name™)
However, you can probably find good stocks on the EE Rimfire Parts forum! They offer nicer laminates and tactical ones from the factory, and I'm sure people have swapped them out at some point...

I have no idea for barrels, trigger groups, etc. :)
 
The other part of this equation is why are you upgrading it? Does it shoot already? I can see changing the stock but anything other than that you're going to spend less money just buying another Mark II.

If the barrel shoots already then the only reason to change it is mostly for visual upgrade which might be your only purpose?
 
Those rifles are already pretty accurate and the trigger is very nice and crisp, so Boyds stock is the only meaningful upgrade. You can always just get a higher end model with a heavier bull barrel and those usually come with nice stocks. The only reason I ordered one for mine is because of water damage due to flooding.

Wow really... the accu trigger is the biggest piece of crap I have ever shot...

The MKII TR is the ###iest of all the MKII's

Have to agree but I think there are differences in the trigger from the entry level to the top end..

###iest? NO, your barrels not threaded... and not a fan of the wood fake McMillan stock.

I think the OP was asking about the Mll G that's already in a decent wood stock with a decent accutrigger... not the TR'd.

I'd just say tune shooting technique... if you can shoot it, and its not within 1" @ 50 then there's something wrong with it or ####e ammo.

its only .22 find out what it likes... there is better ammo then 'bucket o bullets'... whatcha shoot'n??? and don't think HV, subs work great..

For instance, you could buy one with a stainless spiral fluted heavy barrel in a pepper gray laminated stock for about $450 at Del Selin Gunsmith in Vernon, and you don't need to do anything to it. Its a gorgeous rifle!

I am not a savage owner anymore either. Moved on to others. THat is another story though.

You can now order up to $500 worth of stocks form boyds. The limit has been raised. Still cant order the tacticool though

I bought the G because I was being cheap...but it's not really that pretty of a rifle...so I was thinking, like one's do to the 10/22, perhaps there were ways to spice it up and make it look exciting.

Alas, it seems not to be...so I will just shoot it and save to buy a factory upgraded one ;)

Love the one's with the SS spiral fluting, just not big on that hideously ugly 'free floated' stock...so I might grab one of them and go to a more traditional stock design, like the TR.
 
You can do a trigger job on it for free with huge improvements to creep and break. Info on RFC and SavageShooters. You can easily remodel that stock into whatever you want it to be, it's only wood and if you screw it up then get a new one from Boyds or wherever. Also check out Mystic Precisions' (Jerry Teo) stock rebuild article on his site. I added an overtravel screw to the trigger guard, very easy to do. Where in BC are you? If you are in the Okanagan I can certainly give you a hand or at least some pointers. You have a super base to build whatever you want in your G model.
