I have a MK II F and I love it.
It is a great little shooter, my only issue is with the small bolt handle.
The MK II TR has a larger one and I was woondering if anyone knew whether or not a bolt from the TR would fit the F ?
I would have to buy the entire bolt, as the handle is not removable.
Thanks in advance
Terry

Here I took a couple pics of my TR to see if it looks the same as your bolt... If not just call Savage...

The handles are removeable... they are screwed in and then welded... but you have to be very careful messing with them because Savage headspaces their rimfire rifles off of the bolt handle as seated against the receiveer slot... It is often better to cut the handle off, then thread it and then screw in a bolt knob... this way you don't mess with the headspace... I know a couple guys who screwed their rifles to the point they would not fire and because they messed with it, it is not covered under the warranty... here are a few that I did;

Metal work is not my forte, any chance you want the job? :)

I'm having a custom bolt knob added to a short CZ bolt handle now by Jeff at Grizzly Gun Works.

He's going to lathe turn the existing knob down (not just cut it off) and thread the remaining stump. This will lengthen the handle without having to add a massive knob. Then he'll custom turn a new knob, hard coat it, and thread it on.

Can't wait to see his masterpiece!

May I ask what the cost is?

$85 is not too bad in my opinion considering just a knob will cost you at very least $40 and to have a smith install it will be.....$xx.00? So I'm actually considering buying another bold for my BV now thanks to this thread. Lol

Couldnt you just take both bilts apart and instal the portion with the handle you wanted on your existing bolt?

^Exactly. :) I approached a Savage warranty repair shop about the idea, that's exactly what they suggested. I did it on my Savage 93FV (.22WMR) but I imagine it would work just fine on your Mark II. I think they share the same bolt geometry.

Wouldn't you have to buy the whole bolt to get just the part though? Or will savage sell just the part with the handle and not the rest of the bolt? It seems if you gotta buy the whole bolt why not just install the new bolt and no need to take either apart?

With a new bolt you have to get it headspaced. I was thinking if you just installed he rear part you wouldnt need to. No idea if thats the case or not though

lol

I'll post a picture of my super-awesome-custom-tactical knob, but don't go filling my inbox with orders...

Older Lakefield MkII. Came with no handle. 6 hex nuts gobbed together. N'er did bother with an original replacement...

Shes a beauty! That's one to keep in the safe and pass down to the grandkids...
