savage mk11 BV vs BTV

Is the thumbole stock on the BTV worth the extra $50 or so ie for cheek weld and general shooting or can a guy get by with the BV. the mk11 TR looks nice but and extra $110 or so above a BV and it is still a wood stock!!!

Any way am thinking of buying an acccurate .22 rifle and like the reviews on the mk 2 just wondering what you all think of the different stocks

If it matters i am a large guy 6'2" 300 lbs

The BTV is heavier and a bit more bulky to carry. I have both, and for walking and field use, I use the BV. However, when it comes to longer ranges, or lots of shooting from places where I do not have to carry a rifle much, I take the BTV. For me, the thumbhole stock fits well, and seems to help accuracy. I shoot mostly gohpers in Southern Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

The Accutrigger is one of the better advances in rifles and can be adjusted slightly to give better trigger pull.

i have big hands and found the thumb hole stock too restricting. hard to get my hand comfortable both at the range and out gopher shooting. But did love the accutrigger set up.

Then I would buy the BVT. Mine is a stainless steel model, as is my hunting partner's. We regularly shoot at Gophers out to 150 yards with a very high success in hitting them. Off the bench, the BVT seems a bit steadier to hold for me, and accuracy is all I can ask for. Even the cheap bulk pack Federal hollow points we use for Gophers groups well.

Winnipeg Toymaker mentioned a bit of a restriction due to large hands. I am 6'2" and do not feel restricted. One drawback to the thumbhole stock is that it is difficult to make the occasional shot from the left shoulder under hunting conditions. Go to a Gun shop, examine one, hold it and see for yourself if it is suitable for you.
