Does anyone know how to modify the Savage mk11 magazines in .22 long rifle to make them easier to load. As my arthritis progresses, it gets increasingly more difficult to load these mags. Too bad they didn't install some sore of assist button on the sides of them.
I have researched all kinds of mag loaders but haven't found anything designed to work on the savage mags.
My CZ mags are much the same but better manufactured.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I find the 5 rounders to be far easier to load than the 10s. Have you tried loading only 5 or 6 rounds per mag? I find it's only the last 2-4 to be particularly stiff

I don't know if it will help your case but I found that I couldn't out 5 rounds in to a 5 round magazine, and put it in the rifle with the bolt closed. I took the follower out, filed down the front and rear "tab" about 1.5mm. it seems they are easier to load, maybe only marginally though. One thing that has helped me make other magazines easier and more forgiving is to load it and leave it loaded in storage. Springs will only wear out from use, metal fatigue, but that has seemed to help some of them. Maybe it will help in your case.

Magazine Loader supplier !

HI Jamcam et al - I have a savage 64 and the mags are similar. I found (but haven't bought cause they don't ship to Canada) a company from Ohio called Hilljak (https://hilljak.com). The loader is a plastic piece that holds the follower down as you load one round at a time. Looks simple enough to make something similar if you're handy - or maybe they will mail you one if it's not illegal? Using this idea, I now use the 'tab' from a Bic pen cap to hold down the follower, you have to rest the mag on a table or something but it sure helps. Before this I would insert the bullets rim down vertically and 'tip them under the feed lips. This avoids the problem of the round rim against the round side of a cartridge.
Good luck with this.
