Just got a savage mk2 fv sr with a pic rail. Mounted a 10 year old Redfield Revenge I had sitting on the shelf. I’m finding it difficult to get proper eye relief. The stock rail seems to be set too far forward; the scope can’t be set far enough back.
I’ve checked the rail mounting, some of these were rumoured to be installed backwards from the factory, it’s correct.
Anyone else have this issue?

I remember having the same issue, but got lucky that the scope I picked had good eye relief. I don't think those rails can be reversed, if memory serves?

If it was a dovetail/rimfire mount, BKL makes scope rings that are off-set. I've used them on rimfire receivers that are very short, when using an average/longer scope. The only weaver/offset mounts I'm aware of are tactical/one-pc jobs, but they could be worth exploring. Would allow you to offset the scope rearward, but find the lowest one you can=they tend to be tall.

I'd suggest you take it off and re-drill to move it back a bit. I've had to do that b4, just be 'vewwwey accuwate' when you mark the holes.

Correct, they cannot be reversed. MDT makes a rail for the mk2 I just learned. It’s cheaper than replacing the scope anyway. The offset mounts sound like a good way to go as well.

It would give me an excuse to buy a drill press and tapping set but the way the rail is milled moving it back would block the ejection port.

I have an EGW 40moa on my Mark 2 FV-SR, I would have gone with a 50moa if I could have gotten one, but that will depend on the scope you are mounting on it and how much internal travel it has.

Weaver makes what they refer to as an extended ring. It's basically the same thing as the off set/cantilevered ones 22lrguy mentioned, but they are two separate rings and available in different heights.

I have the same rifle and had a Vortex Diamondback Tactical 4-16 mounted on the rail with a slip on butt pad to extend the LOP. I got higher rings to allow a more vertical facial position and more flexible fore and aft scope mounting.

Hi brindle, I just meant to re-drill the rail to move it back a bit. I've done that for other mounts.

Understood. I think re-drilling the rail to move it back would still leave me with a blocked ejection port. If anything I need a rail that extends back towards the rear of the action.

Just get a mount that skews the optic back, may mess up the height but you can just get a cheek rest. Had to do the same with my MK2, didn't need the cheek rest though.

Hi, had the same prob too, i replaced it with an MDT 20moa rail, cheep and made well, drew the scope far enough back for better relief. As you start putting more rounds through the mkii you will definitely feel it deserves a better optic for sure. That will give you a better feel as well.
Best of luck. Happy Thanksgiving 🍻😷👍

I think the mdt rail will be my solution. That won’t cause height issues on an already low-ish stock.

Looking at photos online it does not the screw at the rear is not far enough back. I used double extension weaver rings and it worked for a Banner scope. I thought I was the only one with this problem. I now see it’s not just me.

Can confirm, MDT rail is extended rearward a little over an inch and a half.
It extends back as far as the red dot on safety (fire position)
