savage mk2

Here you go for Dyanpoints. Not great ammo and about 3/4" in my gun. Still it is my standard minute of gopher ammo. $18 per brick at Walmart when I stocked up.

Remington sub sonics do a little better.

Federal bulk is bad in my gun. I shot these targets for a cheap ammo fun contest, and Federal is a non starter. So no targets for that.

The earlier target I posted was Lapua Midas M, the best ammo I have shot. If I was to use that for the 50 yard targets there would be no comparison to the Dynapoint or Remington Subsonics.

Ron AKA. thank you very much! Just what I was asking for.

Rather than starting a new thread... I just bought a MkII f with the sporter barrel. I found so far that I get 1.125" groups at 50 yards with Dynapoints. I have only tried a few types yet and dynapoints were the best so far.

The guys at RFC have recommended some wolf ammo - can we get that up here? Otherwise when one lives in a small town as I do, how does a guy get hold of small amounts of match ammo to try? I know I can buy a bunch in bulk but it's nice to test a little at a time. I've been asking my local retailer for some forever and they never get any in.

I have found blazers shoot the best out of my FV of all the cheap bulk ammo available locally. My savage is a couple years old, so things may have changed, but I had to take a file to my stock to free float the barrel otherwise it would shoot decently until the barrel heated up and then the groups would start to climb up and left. The stock was really jammed tight to the barrel the way I got mine. just something to look for.

Wolf is just a brand name that Lapua uses. It is really the same stuff as SK. All made by Lapua. I don't believe Lapua markets under the Wolf name in Canada, only SK and Lapua. Trouble is that you are not likely to find it without ordering. Even in Edmonton you can't get any SK or Lapua that I know of. One dealer has a little bit of Eley. Eley is good too if you can find it (and justify the expense). These brands can be ordered from

For ammo that you may find locally or in a city, I would suggest you try Remington Sub Sonic HP, CCI Standard Velocity, and Remington Cyclones. Buy a box of 50. Shoot 25 two shot targets and average the group size. It should be enough to tell you how it compares.

My MkII is a bit older as well but the stock is clearly freefloated all the way up and down... the tupperware almost looks bent downward on the forend there's so much clearance and it looks factory.

My 69a likes blazers the best but I shot all I had... I'll be sure to grab some. I think crappy tire carry's them by the 50 if I can't get 500.

Ron AKA - you da man!
