This has been done many times I found on this site, and some very creative methods were used (saw one, someone used a 2 gal bucket and it worked fine). Looks like most people like to use Kydex as the riser and I looked into that. What I ended up doing was getting this 1' by 4' sheet of textured black ABS plastic from a local industrial plastics store for $12.

So I did my own design and dry fitted the paper, at which point I decided it was fine. I started to cut out the rough shape with a dremel and drill out the channels for the bolts to fit in and the riser to slide up and down on.

Took a heat gun (450C temp) and within a matter of seconds I had a satisfactory bend in the plastic.

With that done, all that was left was to drill the stock and secure it. I used some 1/4"x2" hex head bolts with washers on each end, and a lock washer under a wing nut to tighten and loosen at my leisure.

While I had the hardware and tools out, I added some random nuts & washers to lengthen the stock a little. It isn't pretty, but it's a lot more comfortable. All that's left is a little bit of sanding and finishing work on the riser. For now it works and shouldering the rifle is a LOT more comfortable and getting a good cheek weld and good picture through the scope is infinitely better.
