I have a Savage Mk2 with a synthetic stock and a heavy barrel. I noticed that the barrel doesn't sit quite straight in the stock, it points slightly to the right, and actually touches the stock right at the end. fter sighting it in it shoots about 1.5" groups at around 50-60 yards. My question is, is this normal? could the stock just warped a bit or could the barrel actually be siting crooked in the stock?

The stock may have a slight problem area that needs attention (sandpaper wrapped around a dowel, to free float the barrel a bit more). Have you tried tightening the action screws in reverse order, or tried to keep the barrel centered while tightening the screws?

From your grouping, I'd say you have a nice shooter. Savage plastic stocks sometimes leave much to be desired, and I wouldn't be surprised if your stock is slightly warped. I had the same problem with a Savage centrefire, and a few minutes with some sandpaper and a dowel as Saskgun mentioned fixed it right up, as far as free floating the barrel.
