Realizing that they are almost the same firearm with the exception the Savage having the "Accu-Trigger" and finding parts for the Lakefield maybe a little more challenging, which would you prefer?

The accutrigger is the updated Savage firing mechanism. The parts for a Lakefield Mark II are easy to come by as many of the guns appear in the EEs regularly. I have a Mark I, 2- Mark IIs and a Mark III and all have original parts and even operate like new. I am going to try an accutrigger on a Mark II to see if it will improve the Mark II. But I rather like the Lakefield action the way it is. I do like the older guns as they have quality built in.

I am kind of the same way liking the older stuff. I have a uniquish (does not look like the ones on the EE for sale, ie., the safety is only with the bolt handles, not a seperate thumb lever by the barrel, like on the Model 64) Mark III that misfires anywhere from 1-5 times per mag but having one hell of a time trying to find parts or for that matter, anything about it at all (google was not my friend). I was thinking on the Savage as all my Lakefield mags will work and parts are right here in Ontario, but then that old-school retro appeal comes back and I think Lakefield.

My Lakefield 91-TR is slightly more accurate than my Savage MKIIF. Really an apples and oranges comparo, as the 91TR is a target rifle, is 8 lbs, has a 25 inch bull barrel, heavy match stock and a stiff trigger while the MKIIF is a field gun, is 6 lbs, has that sweet Accutrigger, synthetic sporter stock and 22 (21?) inch tapered barrel.

Like them equally for different reasons and purposes.

I'd like to hear more comparison's between the 2, please! I'm looking at getting one and wonder what's the difference between a $120 Lakefield Mk II and a $260 Savage Mk II? I know the accutrigger, but what is the original lakefield trigger like and can it be worked? Are the lakefield barrels lesser accurate than what savage is making today? How 'bout the stock? Mags interchangable? both drilled and tapped in the same places, etc?

The Mark IIs I have are both grooved for the scope mounts, not drilled. My son has a Stevens 300 (same as Savage) and he likes the Lakefields too. Both are equally accurate to 100 yards and with thousands of shells down the tubes...never had a spot of trouble with either. though i do prefer the old girls and wood stocks. The quality seems to be there.

I love my Lakefield. Full mags into a toonie off hand a 50 paces all damn day. I could probably shrink those groups to a quarter or even a nickel if I could make the trigger lighter.

Well, I ended up going with the Lakefield MKII, just something about the older rifles appeals to me. I just bought it today from the EE and now doing the kid at Christmas dance waiting for it to arrive:D. Now my MKIII has a friend to play with.

Kinda kickin' myself on that one now as I saw it within 5 minutes but I've got stuff to move before I can take another home... let us know how she shoots.

Nice wood or accutrigger + $100 - tough call so I say BOTH! Can you put an accutrigger savage in a lakefield stock? Now that would be sweeeeet! Here, let me show you my Lakeage MkII. Or is that a Safield MkII?
