Savage MKII vs. Marlin Model 60

Both are reliable and produce the same 1.5" +/- groups at 100 meters with cheap bulk Winchester Dynapoints, on a calm day. They both have cheap bushnell rimfire scopes.

The MKIIF had failure to eject when I just got it (used from EE) so I cleaned the bolt face/extractor area and that solved it.

If I may suggest, buy both. They are both 22s with different flavor but both delightfully delicious.

I've used my Marlin 60 in the field for ground squirrels.

It is light, short and handles great.

The accuracy has been nothing short of AMAZING, with Rem Yellow Jackets (in this case), but it shoots everything well.

I can hardly believe how well it works and shoots.

I can't speak to the MKII, but I've owned my Model 60 for about one year and I've been very pleased. Mine seems to be picky with some brands of ammo (failure to eject with American Eagle 40gr solids, 1 out of every 10 or 20), but with other brands I can run hundreds a day with zero problems whatsoever (Federal 525 bulk pack, 36gr hollow points). It will shoot 3/4" 5 shot groups at 50 yards, which I'm very happy with.

I love the fact that I have a 14 round magazine when it comes to gopher hunting. That combined with the semi-auto action means little herds of gophers don't stand a chance. You can pick them off quicker than they realize what is happening to the others.

That said, if I was set on a bolt gun, I would probably go with a MKII.
