so just picked up a mkII camo today in .22LR, the question i have is will it fire shorts or only LR? i'm assuming if i load by hand it should work but i'm not sure and don't want to try without getting some info first.

It will shot S. L. and LR. The problem arises from the magazine not being able to reliably load shorts and longs, although mine didn't seem to have much of a problem doing it.

I retract my original statement, as it is truly a matter of magazine function. The shorts will "fall off" before chambering, causing FTFeed frequently. I forgot to mention that. I got lazy and just said no. If you can load them into the chamber, they will fire safely.

It will fire shorts, but there is no good reason to use them. They are only available in cheap ammo brands, and cost more than LR. If you want subsonic velocity then all the target ammo and those marked subsonic will be lower velocity. Subsonic gives best velocity.

Unlike some situations (eg. trying to fire a .22LR in a .22WMR) the .22 short is not dangerous in a .22LR rifle.
It may not feed properly from a clip but there are many pump rifles that chamber all 3 cartridges.
I have tried them and they work fairly well but the standard 1 in 16" twist is not optimal for the .22 short round.

You can get a single shot adapter for the MK2 that might help if you intend to use shorts.
Personally, I don't think I'll ever buy a box.

well thought i'd try some so i picked up a box of CCI .22 shorts and didn't fire any but they cycle awesome. they actually cycle better than the LR rounds. i'm having some chambering issues on the 4th round of the 10 shot magazine. seems to hang up a bit. hoping to get out this weekend to give her a go.
