Savage ML II stock - Plastic plugs on left hand side.

I am wanting to refinish the stock on a Savage ML II I just purchased. I am wondering how to get the plastic caps out of the left hand side of the stock that cover up the cross-bolt reinforcements. Maybe there isn't a way, I can't seem to find any info on the net about them. I wonder what would happen if i just left them in and sanded them with the stock? Not really what I want to do so any advice appreciated.

This is the factory laminate stock you're referring to right? I've refinished one of mine and I just sanded everything as it was and applied the finish.

Looks good! I was going to give mine the Tru-Oil finish. From what I've read, it takes some time but it look awesome when complete.

I used Tru oil on this one, about 10 coats.
