How often do these need to be changed ?

Also, the one I currently have on is really giving me grief getting it off. Any suggestion or tricks on getting it off without buggering up threads or taking a drill to it.

I've no personal experience with the savage ml, but my buddies laugh that they have to remove, clean and lube the threads on the vent liner as often as I clean my pyrodex burners.
 
I beleive the instructions say every 100 rounds from what I can remember soak it in some solvent for a few days -week
 
The manual does say 100 shots.I find it depends on your loads & powder.
43 grs of SR4759 and 250 gr Hornady LOW DRAG SST'S shoot well in mine.
The gun will probably shoot 100 rounds reliably without changing the V/L but I find accuracy starts to drop off at about the 50 shot mark.
I lube the V/L and B/P with the silver brake anti-seize from Canadian Tire and have never had a problem removing the V/L or B/P...
So that's 2 cleanings per year,1 after 3 range sessions of 10 shots each and the 2nd and final after Deer Season when it's time to put the gun to bed ( all on the same V/L).

Hi,

If you shoot often, you will notice that your best grouping is goeing larger and larger.

Or best: if the ventliner hole is = or > 0.035 inch = to the garbage.

To avoid any difficulties to unscrew the vent: Grease and DO NOT screw tight; just to touch...

I also grease and put pink teflon tape on the breechplug.
