Well I got a new savage 2 weeks ago in .308. sighted it in and found that after about 4 rounds could not get the action to open. Tried it again after everything cooled down worked fine till the 3rd or 4th round same thing.Checked all my brass and found score marks on the brass. I figure must be a bad chamber and as it heats up brass sticks. so after about 15 rounds total back to Savage. Now my question is how long is this going to take a few weeks?months? year or more? Should Savage have replaced it like right now?or should I have to wait till they send it to their gunsmith etc. Will they just polish it or replace the barrel? Will polishing cause oversize chamber?Lots of Questions and no answers.

Shine a bright light into the chamber to see if you can see any tooling marks. My chamber was pretty ugly and max loads stuck pretty good. I polished it a bit myself, only a little as I didn't want to mess up the chamber. Between the polish and dropping my charge about 0.4 gr I have no more problems. I didn't get it fixed because the barrel shoots pretty good as it is so I figure better to work around it.

I have had dealings with Savage Canada over warranty issues in the past and they have been great. Before you decide to do anything I'd call them in Lakefield, On and see what they say. I know they have a guy there that could polish it out (if they have the gear, they make .22LR's in Lakefield), but they will most likely want you to send it back, and after inspection replace it. If that's the case and they don't have your rifle in stock don't be shy about asking for something similar as replacement. If you deal with the warranty claim yourself you could end up with a better rifle. The downside is your without your boomstick for however long that takes.

I forgot to add that in Ontario your best option is to take it back to where you got it. If it doesn't function as intended then they have to replace/refund here. If Alberta's consumer regs are the same you have many options but the best seems to me is the retailer exchanging it for another.

Also if your going to deal with the warranty yourself I'd keep it to yourself if you fired any handloads (why complicate things?)

I was shooting just run of the mill 150s AE FMJ and RP cheap hunting loads no reloads. I was dealing with a sporting goods store and took it back The owner called the supplier right away and the rifle went out the first thing monday. Still I was hopeing the supplier would just send an other rifle right away. but nope has to go to their warreny gunsmith so will be going from Salmon Arm bc to Langly to either Ontario or Quebec so I figure at least 3 to 4 months.so I am on Hoildays from Fort Mac and that throws an other twist in to the story. Will be interesting I guess

I'd make sure they get it off in a timely way. If it goes to Savage Canada in Lakefield they will have an answer for you pretty quick. Afterall he just has to look and see the tool marks. I'm almost positive they will want to replace it not fix it. If they don't have an FCP in stock, your waiting, but I'm also sure they will replace it with something similar, as I said before maybe better, if you and they agree. When you talk to them if your model is out of stock ask what they have in .308 and you may end up with better model months faster. The minute that rifle is in Savage's hands I'd deal with them directly. Make sure it's you talking to Savage cust serv and not leave it to be fit into someone elses schedual.

If you make the call you could have it all wrapped up in an afternoon insted of a weeks worth of telephone tag bettween the shop, dist, Savage, and you.
