Savage model 10/12 staggared feed?

Is there any reason why a savage (model 10 or 12 or the like) action couldn't feed from a staggered magazine, like ohhhh, say a PMAG 20LR?

That is a good point. It would just be nice to build a chassis that accepted cheap mags as opposed to $100 AI mags.... which is just ludicrously overpriced.
 
You can use the Ruger Gun site polymer mags for around $40 but they need to be modified a bit to function in the Savage. Supply on these is iffy

They are a double stack fit.

The investment in AI mags soon fade when you start to run them and they keep working and feeding and working and feeding.

Mags that dont run are very very expensive.
