I'm having jamming issues with a recently purchased (used) savage model 10 Precision Carbine. It's a fairly frequent issue, happens too often to be able to over look, I would say 1 out of every 3 shots jams.

I'm having two separate jamming issues - the first one is an ejection issue. It'll extract it but won't throw the round out of the action when you pull the bolt back.

With the second issue it won't remove the round from the magazine and up the feed ramp. I push the bolt forward and it hits the back of the round and stops. Sometimes if I do multiple attempts and use more force it'll finally chamber the round and other times it won't and I need to put my finger into the action and free up the round manually with my finger.

I'm debating between two options, take it to a gunsmith or give up and buy a tikka or a remington 700.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Is this a common problem or a one off? Or should I just give up on it? Thanks!

Heard of a few shooters with your issue, you can try opening up the top lip on the mag for the feeding issue. As for ejection could be a broken or bent spring? If you want to inspect. You can look at the bolt face you'll see the square ejector, push down on it slightly and slide it out, careful its under spring pressure...under the ejector there will be a very small detent ball(I usually have look for after it flies out so becareful) then the spring.

If not the issue you can try visiting the "Savage Shooters site" there may be a fix there?
Good luck!

Do you mean like take a file to the lip on the magazine?

And I'll give the bolt a good inspection tonight, might be a stuck ejector like what you're saying. Otherwise it's a really nice rifle. Sharp looking and is a tack driver. I've heard lots of good things about savages so I don't want to just give up on it just yet.

I would just take a pair of padded jaw pliers and bend out the lips of the mag slightly. YouTube should have a video on how to remove and clean the ejector spring. If I can find it I'll attach the link.
