I'm looking at a new rifle for hunting varmints and coyotes.

I was set on the Tikka T3 Varmint in .204 Ruger, however, after handling a Savage at the range and having the gentleman who owned it tell me about the Savage Model 10 Predator, I thought I'd look into this particular rifle a little more.

I probably won't get around to looking at one seriously until the Winter, so, there's lots of time to decide.

Any input from owners of this particular model?

I'd rather hear about the rifle than cartridge choice, if at all possible. Thanks.

I love my Savage.

The one but that I would add is the magazine's feeding issue.

The Savage's magazine in rather finicky to get seated and locked properly, and - if the magazine isn't perfectly seated - it is not unusual for the bolt to ride over the top cartridge, leaving you with an empty chamber. Chamber-checking is absolutely necessary. I love my Savage, but this can be very frustrating, and embarassing. This issue has been widely reported.

I haven't heard of the Tikka having any similar issue.

I had the same issue, but since then I just make sure the magazine was seated properly and I've had no problems.
