good rule is spend double on the optics than you did on the rifle.
however, if budget is tight... $1000 is probably a good target.

Why is that a good rule?

Because right now I think your rule is goofy. Haha

My fiancee thinks its a bad rule too... she likes the three month pay for a wedding ring one tho. :)

Wedding/ Engagement rings cost way too much for what you get.... (Good ### for a few weeks... then headaches about wedding planning for the rest of the engagement)

Just tell her that if she gets a ring, You get a man gift to yourself that costs half of what her ring does ;)

I just realized that I didn't contribute much.

I'd say the money you have for optics opens a lot of doors. I'd go 30mm tube.

spence diamonds will make a fake ring without diamonds or gold for a couple of bucks, then you pickup the real ring. months later swap the real with the fake and go pawn it for a scope

Alas she has her ring already. She's a super awesome girl too... LIKE THE BEST!!!

Almost everyone agrees I'm punching WAAAAAY above my weight class getting her.

My brothers in blue said they'll make sure she's "looked after" if something happens to me. BASSSTARDS!!!!

One of my boys that I deployed with had his gf at the time drop the "three months salary" rule for engagement rings. he decided to use three months of deployed salary with hazard and hardship allowances tacked on vs garrison salary as his yardstick. She was beaming when she received her $18,000 ring. That three months salary rule is for the birds I say!
