Savage Model 10TR, 308 WIN accessories

I just sold my Millet TRS1 4-16x50mm scope. Overall, it's a lot of scope for the money. The images are clear, might not be Sightron or S&B quality but they are pretty good. Nice large parallax knob makes it easy to work with gloves on and locking turrets is nice to have. Lifetime warranty doesn't hurt either. The drawback is that they are fairly large scopes. The reason I sold mine was because I wanted more magnification and a great CGNer gave me a sweet deal on a scope I had my eye on for a while. If I didn't need the cash for my current AR build, I'd have kept it for a 223 bolt gun. :)

I’m going to throw a brake on mine as well, just to see if it will make a difference. I know they make a ton of noise for the lanes next to me, but it’s not like I’m blatting off thunder all day at the range, and I always ask my neighbors if they mind me letting off a few before I do it. The usual response is “it’s a *ucking gun range, make all the noise you want”. Besides, since we can’t have sound suppressors in Canada, may as well go the opposite way, haha!

Without a break/compensator, my rifle will jump a bit and I'd have to shift it back and relocate my target after each shot. That becomes annoying as frack after a few rounds. I'd rather live with the noise and keep my sight picture and cheek weld than have to basically reset my rifle after every shot and lose some form of consistency in my setup.

Woah, most of the images I googled, popped up with suppressors attached. I guess the brake that comes with your rifle is specific-suppressor ready?

Yup. Or you can take off the break and attached standard suppressor a if we didn't live in an irrational and paranoid land.

Is there clearance issues with the bolt knob/scope? The scopes look kind of high to me.. just wondering, not trying to be a *ick.

Also, whats up with them only being offered to mil/law? The specs dont look like anything special, other than the price. Perhaps just an appreciation thing?

From what I read they want to market them to LE/Mil so its like a teaser for the boys to show their teams to gather interest and support.
I don't think there's anything 'anti civilian' about them, just they want them in Mil hands first to get their attention. I could be wrong but that's my understanding.

I'm sure we'll see these released as regular non-restricted rifles soon enough.

They are just trying to compete with rem. 700 that most le and military use for marksman rifles. They want to get them into their hands to try them out and hopefully get some contracts out of the deal. That's all.

No....it's just a bolt action rifle no different than any other bolt action rifle. Unless the rcmp can convert it to fully auto with little effort.

Ordered these for mine....should have read the product description first before hitting confirm, the one on the left is *ucking massive, haha! Might just mount it anyways, for $hits and giggles. I'll try them both and see which one I like better, then flip the one I don't keep.

It's not prohibited, but it was intended to be limited to Law Enforcement and Military personnel for purchasing only. Some folks in the LE/Mil community have chosen to spoil all the fun for the rest of us LE/Mil types and put them up on EE at a mark-up... but that was pretty much inevitable, these things always make their way onto the open market at some point.

I was just talking to someone in PM about buying a 10TR off of EE. And I noted that one guy was only willing to pay the cost of the rifle $599 plus shipping. Another person was offering $100 on top of the $599 plus he’d cover shipping.

I see a lot of griping about the folks who are marking them up. The way I see it is, the rifle is $599.99, plus GST, plus shipping to the original buyer, so you’re looking at about a $655 cost to the original buyer. Then you have to factor in the time they spend getting it from the retailer to themselves, then to you.

Cops make about $35-50 an hour, depending on seniority and if it’s an overtime shift, so basically they’re investing at least an hour or two to do this for you (taking the time to order it, exchanging info and e-mails with you, bank info, transfer of funds, relabeling it, drive it to the post office, and send it off). By the end of the day, they are probably going to lose money doing it. It's not because they're greedy that they want more money, they make plenty of money. It's just that who wants to go to all that trouble and time for a complete stranger and lose money?

I’ve seen them go on EE for at least $850 plus shipping, and personally, I think that’s fair. I ordered one for a guy at my unit who’s waiting for his PAL. He’s a buddy of mine, but even then I think it’s a pain the @$$. Why the *uck would I want to go through all that trouble to order one for some total stranger?

Anyway, there are options:
1. If you have to have one right now, and you’re not Le/MIL, pay what the market dictates and don’t moan about it,.
2. Wait out. I think Savage will open it up for everyone eventually
3. Wait for one with higher “mileage” to pop up on EE.
4. Get one from irunguns...works out to about $775 or so with the crappy exchange rate, gst and shipping.
5. You can always apply for the job.

so is it prohibited for one to be in possession of a civilian? as far as second hand re-sale would go or whatever?

Absolutely not- the only thing that distinguishes this from any other rifle in their line is specific things like the particular combination of bull barrel (threaded and capped), Accustock, Accutrigger, tactical bolt handle, picatinny rail, bottom bolt release and bottom mag release. And you can't find them on Savage's website.

For those wondering, Remington has its own separate website where they market all their LE/Military stuff- its just held to ahigher QC standard, some more stringent construction/assembly steps, etc. Like the 870LE shottie I picked up last year.

Really getting tired of the Mil/LE/Savage bashing that's been going on. Would anyone else here say seniors discounts should not be allowed, or kids eat free, or even take advantage of a kids menu? Then why stomp on Savage for this deal? Hypocrisy!

I really don't understand the need or want to put one of these brakes on a 308. A 308 is a pussycat of a rifle to shoot, especially one with a heavy barrel
