I bought a NIB 12 twist, bought two boxes of norma 105gr. moly coated lapua ammo. Shot ten from each box and the holes it punched at 70 yards are sideways. shooting two other guns from the same point it was buissnese as usual.
is it possible that 105gr bullets are to heavy for a 12 twist barrel? (the two local gun shops dont have any lighter ammo) Dies are on the way, what weight bullets should i try? or is something else wrong????

Will they not stabilize to the point that the would actually punch sideways holes at 70 yards (I've heard of it but it's still hard to believe)

It is hard to believe, isn't it? But true - I have a target hanging in my gunroom, with three perfectly-sideways-profile bullet shapes through it; it was fired at 35 yards(!). Like you say, it is hard to imagine how they could turn so much in such a short distance.

A 14" twist will stabilize 68 grain flat base bullets. So your 12" twist will easily stabilize 70-grain bullets

I dont have any dies yet, so this moring i pulled a few of loaded norma 105 and replaced them with berger 95grn vld. they were better but still far from straight shooting. i found some 70 soft nose FB that ill try this after noon.

I have a 13 twist and it wouldn't stabalize 85 gr bullets. When I started off the first round went through the paper sideways @ 25 yds. Loves the 70 gr SMK's though! Cranking them out @ 3400 fps through a 24" tube. This is my go to gopher getter.

remember that vld bullets are very long and the twist you need is not based on weight but how long the bullets are. seems to me that gun is a varmint rifle and varmint hunters like fast light bullets.
