Hi guys,

I have a couple questions regarding the 155 gn Palma (type) bullets and the 1-10 twist BBL on my model 12. I have been working on setting up my Leatherwood ART II M-1000, and have been working with the 155 gn palma bullets. I'm wondering if i should be going in a different direction, due to the fact im using a 1-10 twist BBL....

The idea behind using the M-1000 is to be able to range and fire on coyote's very quickly, thats why im using it. So far, my loads using the A-Max 155 gn are grouping very well at 100 meters, and alright at the 250 meter zero that the M-1000 requires as its starting point. With this setup, I really don't need a better group than say, 3-4" at 500+ meters, as this is workable when 'yote hunting. So far I've been able to get the M-1000 set up to the point where its ranging acceptable out to 600 meters, I was interrupted in testing due to snow last time I was out..... The thing is, the M-1000 is only capable of 10x zoom, so testing loads out to 600+ meters is difficult, due to this. So i'm kinda at a wall now..... I'm getting 4-5" groups at 500-600 meters, and I'm starting to wonder if its the light bullet in the 1-10 twist? Should I maybe start over and try the 168 gn A-Max (I have a box). The thing is, all the work setting up the Cam on the M-1000 goes out the window once i change grains.

Has anyone ever shot the Palma bullet out of a 1-10 twist BBL and been able to work an accurate load up with it? If its capable of it, I'm gonna maybe get a high zoom, long range scope, like a Millett LRS-1, just to develop an accurate 700+ meter round, then switch over to the M-1000 and get the cam set up..... This is alot of work, and i'm finding that developing a super accurate load AND setting up the ART system is too much at one time. What I need is, a load that is super accurate at 600+ meters, that I have confidence in, THEN do the ART II cam set-up, not develop a load and do the set up at the same time..... I am also considering just getting the Leatherwood M-1200 ART II, as it has the capability to zoom up to 24x, that would take care of my zoom issue, and keep development more simple, using one scope.

So, with that in mind, am I spinning my wheels using the 155 gn bullet? some say a 1-10 twist bbl should handle it, and some say, no way.....Initially I was gunning for a load that would work out to 1000 meters, but after all the testing i've done, i'm leaning more towards a load that is in the 2-3" group at 800 meters maximum.....

what are your thoughts on this? I have 100+ un-fired .308 brass here, a couple lb's of Varget and a box of 168 gn A-Max's, so i'm ready to start on a new path, I just need some info on other guy's experience with them.... ;-)

The 10 twist is not what I would pre-select but if the gun is working, I think you have answered your own question. The 155's can and do work in 10 twists and in tersm of weight to BC ratio, they are hard to beat in a 30 cal.
