Howdy Folks:
For some time now I've been on a quest to find an "out of the box" rifle that I could use as a starting point for my venture into 1000 m shooting. You know
something that was pretty damned good to start with, was easily upgradable and didn't cost me a fortune. Until recently, I had pretty much settled on the
Tikka T3 Varmint in 6.5x55 and I was just waiting for one to come available. Now, however, Savage is bringing out the Model 12 LRP in .243 Win, 6.5
Creedmoor and the .260 Rem; tentatively at the end of this month. The Savage Rep told me they would be producing them as the distributors ordered them.
So I was wondering how many people would be interested in getting together as a group and putting in an order though one of the sites dealers?
You can get the Models details off Savage's Website and they look to be an excellent deal to me. Personally, the Model 12 LRP in .260 Rem is exactly
what I've been looking for.:D
Anyone interested please chime in.

The MSRPs on the Savage site are high, even Cdn. dealers offer discounts on those.
I am a Savage fan, but a potential issue is that it usually takes Canada a while to land any new models.

I agree. My thinking was that a larger order might get us around the usual wait. She did say they produced them as the distributors ordered them.

If you could get a dec price I would def be interested.

Well, including you, we're up to four people expressing interest. If we can get that number up to say twenty, then I'd start shopping it around to the various
site sponsors and they would have to look into seeing if they could get a shipment sent up here and get back to us with a price per unit. So it'll take a bit of doing yet.

I have a 6BR LRPV and really like it. Accuracy exceeded my expectations. If you go ahead with it, a couple of thoughts:

I debated about the models; right bolt-right port, right bolt-dual port, and right bolt-left port. In the end I went for the right bolt-left port. It has turned out to be real slick. You can see to single load, and catch your empty brass without damaging it. If it is available in the 260, that arrangement would be my suggestion.

The only knock I've heard on the 260 is that it can be long overall if you seat the low drag heavier bullets to reach or jam the lands. And for accuracy, that is probably where you want them. However, with a single shot you should be able to easily feed them. And if you decide to pull a loaded round, you may have to slip the bolt out to get it out.

Three words: Detachable Box Magazine.:)
To the best of my knowledge, that's the only configuration available.

It looks interesting, price dependant, but I don't know why Savage have not offerred the 243 in a 8 twist. The heavy for calibre bullets would surely help with the monicker "Long Range Precision".

Well folks, I was talking to a distributor today and the Savage Model 12 LRP isn't even on the "export list" yet. When exactly that will happen is anybodies
guess, but probably not for a while. The bottom line is, there could a 1000 of us ready and willing to fork out the cash, but until it makes it onto the export
list, we're just whistling Dixie people.
Anyway, no point in carrying on with this exercise until certain things happen, but I'll keep an eye on things and maybe revive this thread at a later date.
On the positive side of things, we'll have the advantage of product evaluations by Mr. and Mrs. John Q Public to base any future decisions on.

Later people, thanks for your interest.

Yes, I checked with the Savage Gun finder, and the only LRPV model has the mag, and right bolt, right port. So you will have to deal with the overall length issue or single feed.

Have you measured the OAL a Savage short action magazine can accommodate?

If you are interested I could measure my 6BR LRPV. What do you want to know? Distance from bolt face to front of ejection port? My LRPV is a single shot, so no mag to measure.

Yeah 3" oal for these mags.

Lot's of extra room in the Magazine right. Swap the barrel out with one chambered just the way you want and you'll have a real tack driver on your
hands; that's not to say it isn't that way out of the box. Like I said in the beginning "easily upgradable". It's got a great stock, a great action and trigger,
it's chambered for a great cartridge and I imagine the barrel is no slouch either.
What's not to like? I have got to get me one of those and I want it right Nooooow!!!.:D
