Savage model 12

I have a LRPV Left port. It has a 1 in 7 barrel and shoots 80 and 90 gr bullets at 0.5 moa or better. I believe it will do the job but 100 yds is the farthest it's shot. Any ver of LRPV should do the same.

Savage F/TR should be a good choice very impressed with mine. Only had the oppertunity to sight it in and shoot at 300 yards since I have had it. My best groups during sighting in with the first sets of reloads; My Best 3 shot group at 100 yards during the sight in process was 0.267 inches measured by on target. My Best 5 shot group at 100 during the sight in process was .577 Inches a bit of tinkering and some insider knowledge about team savages loads should help me shrink those groups a bit. They claim a 3 shot group using 155 bullets and varget at 500 yards of .88" if I can come close to produceing those results I'll be happy.

I made 20 for 20 hits on a 1 moa gong at 300 yards some shots even while the gong was moving :)

Chrony results
Velocities are pretty consistent I would have had more but it got shady where I was shooting and my chrony started acting up saying 4000fps lol but it clearly wasn’t because bullets where impacting the target at 2950fps lol
2941
, 2958, 2936, 2953, 2955, 2949, 2952, 2943, 2951 2934
Average Speed 2947.2
FPS

Depending when the crops come off and if its not to close to hunting season I'll try for some long shots :) I dont want to disturb the deer to close to hunting season I try not to do any shooting during october. After the first week of november and all thru winter I can go practice my long shots.

I'll do a full writeup once I have shot it more.

If anyone knows where I can get a nice palma adjustable stock please let me know the downfall of this gun is the crummy cheak riser plus the palma stock just looks cooler :)

Team Savage uses 12 FTR rifles and they won the World F-Class Championships in their class. This is long range shooting at its finest.

For gosh sakes, spend time at short distance and master that before taking on long range shooting. 1000 yard shooting demands superlative shooting and relaoding skills that only come with practice.

That's a good tip :) I have been shooting for many years now and I have still not shot 1000 yards yet... my longest shots are 725 yards its pretty hard to jump from 100 yards to 1000 yards. For example I found it hard jumping from 400 yards to 725 groups just opened up that much more. Every little mistake is amplified the further you go...

Alot of times too tight groups at 100 are crummy at longer ranges. If you have a tight group at 100 and your chrony confirms good velocitys with little spread then by all means give it a shot at longer ranges...

Bigest selling feature for me on 12 f/tr is the 30" barrel, before that my 308 was a tactical 20" and there is a pretty big velocity jump when you add 10" to the barrel.

I seem to be picking up conflicting advice. On one hand we have: a factory barrel is a factory barrel no matter which factory.

On the other hand we have get an FTR they shoot great. Is there really so much difference between the 12 FTR and some of the other Savage and Remington models to validate recommending purchasing a factory gun, an FTR in the precision forum.

Remington is out there making guns for applications that dont exist... I was a die hard Remington owner and my savage F/TR opened my eyes to what can be achived when a company listens to its customers.

How many Remingtons are avalible in 1-8" twist or for that matter 1-7" twist how many come with 28 and 30" barrels they dont exist... any serious target shooter wants these features... remington also has triggers that only adjust down to 1.5lbs my savage can go as low as 6 oz.

Savage is about as close as you can get to a factory built custom gun.

However I have been told accuracy can still be improved with a aftermarket barrel swap

Warrenb...the problem is we have idiots that masquerade as experts, and repeatedly spew their credentials as well as BS advice.

It is all about people validating their own choices.

;)

I'm no expert but the model 12 target rifles have different actions and triggers. I'll speculate that the barrels are better than most factory fare.

The barrels all come from the same machines/factory.

As with any factory barrel it's the luck of the draw. Although Savage barrels are checked for concentricity (by eye) there is still no guarantee it will be a shooter.
